    Rain gear a must

by Cruefan Updated Jun 3, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Luggage and bags: take enough luggage to allow for a variety of clothes as the weather can change hourly.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: I would take a moutain shoe or something with some traction for exploring the hills. I would also pack something more casual if your eating out. Also take a parka with a hood or bring a hat. It rains here quite often.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Some parts of the Commemara are remote and your choices are small. If your staying locally just bring a travel bag with the usual toiletries.

Photo Equipment: A camera either digital or film is a must. I took alot of pictures and if you run out of film or batteries you might me hard pressed on the Connemara. Also charge all your batteries for the digital cameras before you head out.

Miscellaneous: I just want to stress the importance of raingear. Getting caught in a downpour and having to spend the rest of your day wet is very avoidable.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: INISHMORE, Aran Islands:
When I was there the tab water was conterminated and we only were told in the pub at night. The only supermarket on the island closes at 5 or 6 so we had no chance to buy drinking water. Just be warned that there's only one shop in case you need one!

Photo Equipment: There are a few tourist shops in Kilronan where you can get things like this - but it's definitely cheaper to bring everything you need for the time you'll be there! After all this is an expensive place and variety is limited!

Miscellaneous: Bring cash! There is a bank on the island - but it only opens twice a week and doesn't have an ATM machine. So get the cash you need (some B&Bs might not accept credit cards!) before going to the ferry!

A good road map of the Connemara

by wadekorzan Written Sep 1, 2002

Miscellaneous: You can pick up a nice map of the Connemara region at many tourist offices around Galway. It really is a help to plan your driving so as to maximize your time.
