Take a half a day and drive the Connemara Loop from Rounstone through Clifden and on to Letterfrack. We followed the N59 through Kylemore and turned around having driven along Ireland's only fjord in Leenaun. We took the R344 back to Roundstone, stopping at the Ballynahinch Castle.
Stops along the way: hiking options and shopping in Clifden, Letterfrack shopping and cafes, Kylemore Abbey (a must!) and the fjord near Leenaun, hiking any of the 12 Bens.
The route winds through the 12 Bens - making for amazing scenery even if you don't have time to hike. The road width and safety varies - Connemara makes for interesting driving anyway so you might as well take advantage of it!
Just walk around the area
The surroundings of the Roundstone are quite varied. During our stay there, I and my SO just picked some direction and walked to see what's there. Things residing within a few kilometers of Roundstone include a nice white-sanded beach, some mountaintops with a nice view, places where the effects of tide is quite striking and other sights. For us, this was a sufficient way to keep us entertained for a week.
Watch bodhrans being made
Bodhrans are the one-sided drums used in traditional Irish music. You can see them being made by hand at Roundstone Musical Instruments.
