You shop for socks knitted from the best woll in Connemara!! You can't go wrong. I picked up a pair of Connemara wool socks when I was down near the Burren in County Clare, and wished I'd picked up a few more pairs when I was up north - as they were cheaper.Who doesn't love striped stocks??!! About 5 Euro a pair
This is absolutely my favorite store in all of Ireland. I could spend HOURS in here! They have everything...Aran sweaters, Waterford crystal, local crafts, souveniers. Plan on spending a little time looking at all they have to offer then relax a little in the tea room at the back that overlooks Galway Bay. There are local crafters in the tea room selling their wares as they make them. Best place for Aran sweaters. Good place to pick up a few souveniers for those back home. And the local craftsmen do beautiful work. The prices at Standuns are comparable to other stores.
The pedestrian area located not far from Eyre's Square offers some wonderful places for shopping.Of course there are many nice souvenir shops selling Aran sweaters and Claddaugh rings, but there are nice clothing,music,antique and vintage clothing stores as well. There is a very large bookstore and we spent well over an hour in there. There really is something for everyone here.
