This is a real "off the beaten path" place to go, next stop the US. The wind howls and the views are bleak. The roads turn very quickly into lanes and then single lane tracks. Held up by a herd of cows at one point and then by a tractor (Travelogue to follow), the farmhouses are low to protect themselves from the elements and it is a hardy person that walks around out here. You cannot get the more "real" Ireland than here.
Follow the R336 from Spiddal as far as Costelloe, left onto the R374 and follow the signs to Gorumna and then your nose to the end of the road. Apart from the views there is nothing out here, so pack a Thermos with tea or coffee if you have one.
