There are different places, where you may take the ferry from in order to get to the Aran Islands:
Doolin, Galway City and Rossaveal.
I took the ferry from Doolin, BUT there the tides are quite low and when I took the ferry in 1990, there was a shuttle-service by small boats from the landingstage to the big ship, that could not get to the pier during the ebb. these boats needed more than 1 hour just for the embarkation and there was not even a dry place to enter these small boats.
So, when you intend to take the ferry from Doolin, ask about ebb and tide, when you buy your ticket. Leave a Comment

There is a possibility to fly by small aircrafts to the Arran Islands from Spiddal / a small village west of Galway city.
44 Euros is the return-ticket and it includes a free shuttle-bus from Galway city. The flight is just about 30 minutes and will give you an excellent opportunity to see and take pictures of the island and the mysterious Fort Angus from above.

As soon as you arrive in Kilronan on the island of Inishmore, you will have different possibilities to get to Dun Aengus :
You may rent a bike, a scooter or a horse-drawn carriage. I took the horse-carriage for 3 Euros per person uphill to Dun Aengus, and then I walked back from there. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

In Galway you can catch at the TIO or across from it. Aran Ferries runs a shuttle bus to the dock; the crossing is about 20 minutes and cost is about $30 but with discounts for families, studends and groups. Island Ferries is similar. Both depart from Rossaveal and have 5 or 6 crossings per day. These are both to Inismore but there is one that goes to Inisheer as well and it goes from Doolin. The easiest way to get around County Galway is by car.

INISHMORE, Aran Islands:
Rent a bike.
It's 6 IEP a day at the Aran Bike rental in the white shed right of the pier when arriving. Be careful - saddles are really hard, the island is more hilly than you think and as soon as you leave the main road there's offroad paths.... Leave a Comment Theme: Bicycle

INISHMORE, Aran Islands:
There are vans that take you to the main sights of Inishmore waiting in Kilronan. It costs around 5 IEP and you will see a lot of the island, get inside information (like: 'The oldest woman on Inishmore is 109 years old and that's her house over there') and you will be brought to Dun Aengus and to the 7 churches at least. By ferry from Rossaveal, Connemara, Co. Galway.
A return ticket is 15 IEP and the trip only takes 30 minutes with the fastest new boat 'Draiocht na Farraige' and a bit more with the slower boats.
