Slea Head, Dingle

The Slea Head Drive on Dingle Peninsula in Co. Kerry is one of the best road trips you will take and never forget. It is just the right length and the diversity keeps you looking around each new corner.

I recommend Slea Head Beach for stopping and taking a moment to breath in the sea, watch the waves, and enjoy the sand. The formations of rocks are dramatic and seem almost angry.

At the westernmost point of Europe you can see this crucifiction monument and a breathtaking scenery! Especially breathtaking at sunset!! What I always wonder is... if this is the westernmost point of Europe, where is Iceland then?

The Slea Head Leisure Drive takes in a lot of interesting places to visit along the way.

It is located at the very end of the Dingle Peninsula.

I have a couple of seperate tips on this area (see tips on Beehive Huts, the beach at Dunquin) but also along the way are several things I never got to see.

The Famine Cottage for example at Ventry and the Blasket Islands to name but two.

There is big shop and tea shop at Slea Head which we did stop at and sat outside overlooking the cliffs and the sea while we had a nice drink.

There are some great photo opportunities here, as well as a good opportunity to see just how powerful the sea can be. It is worth parking your car and walking down to the beach, even climbing on some of the rocks for some good pictures. You just can't appreciate the sea unless you get down to the beach.

We took a brilliant tour around Slea Head Drive in Dingle called "Buailtin Private Tours" Rather than taking a crowded bus that has set stops, we opted for a personal tour.

We took a "Cab" Tour, just a local driving his car and gave us a personal tour and stopped wherever we wanted. He provided us with a ton of information and history of the area.

Slea Head is gorgeous, if you're in Dingle you really must see it, and this is the tour to go on! It was pretty cheap, just €15/person for two hours.
