Ireland is one of the prettiest places I've ever been. The climate there consists of clean air and almost daily rain, and fair temperatures that never really pass 90 degrees F/32 C, and usually stay within the 50-65 range. In Fahamore, there are a lot of outdoor adventures and activities that benefit from this weather. If you like mountains, Mount Brandon is the second-tallest mountain in all of Ireland. Although untrekkable after a long rain, Brandon is a great mountain to climb on a sunny day with average Ireland temperatures. If you like watersports or the beach, Fahamore is a peninsula with its own bay, and you are surrounded by water almost everywhere you go. (Warning- if you're not from Ireland or anywhere with freezing water, you WILL need a wet suit) And I have heard about cardboard boat races, and a lot of cultural goings-on, as well as windsurfing championships being held on the waters surrounding Fahamore.
Spillane's is the central hub for all the activity in Fahamore. A great little family-owned pub/restaurant, with a mostly Irish, locally grown products menu, people in Fahamore come to Spillanes as the equivalent to an American barber shop or drugstore. Of course, in line with Irish culture, they have traditional music occasionally during the evening, and there's always a large gathering of sports fans after County Kerry wins a big hurling match or other sports event. Reasonable prices, good food, local specials, delicious soft-serve ice cream, friendly ambience, and a very active place. Come for a drink or two in the evening, it's basically where everybody meets and is a fun place to go at night.
Favorite Dish: Anything Irish! Irish food is usually pretty good. Rack of lamb is the high end, Irish beef stew is the cheaper end, both are great.
