    You Have to Carry It

by highlandlaura Updated Feb 26, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Luggage and bags: Take One Bag and One Backpack. Can add a smaller daypack. Only what YOU can carry, yourself, without help! Remember: Take only what YOU could carry for a mile. You want the freedom to move around, to walk up and down flights of stairs, walk to train stations and thru underground stations. See our heap of luggage in the photo? There was no way we were going to get all that into the boot/trunk of the car! But, we DID!

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Walking shoes, wool socks, light long underwear, warm pajamas, jacket, hat, gloves. It gets very cool in the evenings.

  • Packing List for Skellig Michael

by sabsi Written Feb 25, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Luggage and bags: I was happy to have brought a waterproof backpack. Without it everything I have brought would have been wet after the cruise to Skellig Michael!

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Hiking boots will help you climb the 680 stairs up to the top! Bring weatherprove clothes for the boat trip, I was soaked when we arrived at Skellig Michael because all the seaspray hit me. The boatmen normally have lovely army clothes to borrow you when they expect a rough crossing though!

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: If you get seasick easily and you have some pills that help you maybe you would want to take one pill before going...

Photo Equipment: Take loads of films!!!! You wouldn't want to run out of films in a special place like this!

And a zoom is perfect for taking pictures of all the cute puffins!

Miscellaneous: There is no shop, no toilet, ... hmmmm ... actually nothing on the island!!! Be prepared!
