Skelligs consist of two 'unreal' islands - Skellig Michael (Sceilg Mhicíl) and Little Skellig (Sceilg Bheag) . Latter one is populated by more than 20000 gannets - the white colour of the rock looks like a different kind of stone from the distance, when you look closer it's all white birds and what they left behind!!! Skellig Michael is the island you can go to for a day trip. It's a paradise full of birds, breathtaking views and history...
It's so unbelieveable and such a great experience to go there - I'm running out of superlatives...check my Skelligs travelogue (on my Co. Kerry page) for more!
The Skellig experience
The Skellig heritage centre is a good place to go to after having been to the Skelligs to get more impression about the monks, birds or the lighthouse people who lived there.
But don't think the Experience is replacement for making the trip over to the rock itself! You can go on a boat from the visitor centre which brings you around the Skelligs - but without actually stopping and getting off the boat... if you ask me don't do that! Go on a proper boat trip that brings you onto the island!!!
