Quills, Kenmare: Great place to get souvenirs!!

Quills is a huge shop, filled with everything and anything a tourist would want to buy for a loved one back home. They have a huge range of clothes (woolen mainly - including Aran jumpers). They also have a range of sports related jerseys (football and hurling). There is also china, glassware and other objects to place around your home. They have some nice jewellery as well. The staff were very friendly. When I was there I bought some Irish linen - something for the table, with a beautiful stitching of lavender on it. Depends on what you buy - but their prices seemed reasonable.

This shop is situated in Clogher, near Ballyferriter and the pottery is sold from the gallery at the actual pottery itself. Of course you can buy it from other outlets as well but buying it here usually means getting it a little cheaper, especially during Sale times. Also, it's possible to pick up seconds which don't have too obvious flaws. Louis Mulcahy does a beautiful range of pottery and if you want a quality piece of craftwork for yourself, or as a gift for someone special ,you couldn't do much better than this. My favourites are the vases, lamp bases and large decorative wall plates It doesn't come cheap but you could pick up smaller items from about EURO 20. The larger pieces are expensive but worth it if you appreciate quality craftsmanship and beautiful objects

Killarney - a shoppers' paradise

Walking along the streets of Killarney you can't miss their wonderful window displays. I didn't have enough time to stare at them for long but still noticed lots of interesting ornamental pottery and china, brass and other household objects, souvenirs. But probably the most interesting and popular were the locally made woollies: Irish sweaters and other knitwear. I only had a look at them as the prices were rather high and I am allergic to wool anyway but I saw some ladies coming back to the coach with bags full of them. Woollies, particularly the wonderfully soft Aran sweaters

Moriarty's: The Gap of Dunloe Industries

Our guide described this as one of the two places which C.I.E. tours recommended for shopping. It also provided us with an opportunity to use the restroom, and in my case to photograph some of the flower blooms and the mountains. My grandson bought his mom a mohair scarf for €29.00

Quill's is an Irish chain of Department stores that are in Co. Kerry, Scheem on the Ring of Kerry and in Kenmare which is at the top of Bay at the base of the Kenmare River, between Iveragh and Beara Peninsulas. These are the only two I know of, but I think there might be more. Woolen sweaters and hats and scarfs, etc. A discount store for tourists and shoppers. Prices will be lower than most specialty Irish tourist shops.

Car-boot-sales: Buy an Irish Cottage - the size does'nt matter

So-called "Car-boot-sales" are quite common in Ireland and when you are lucky, you may get a nice souvenir there for a really cheap price, at least much cheaper than at the tourist-antique-shops in Killarney. An Irish Cottage for just 2,- Euros ???Yes, if you are lucky, and don't care for the size...I bought this lovely straw-thatched Tea-pot on a local flea market in Sneem for just 2 Euros, and it is used for special occasions at home now !! Just 2 Euros - in the souvenirshops such pots are about 30 Euros.

Billed as "Europe's Westernmost Potter," Louis Mulcahy is a well-respected artisan. There are several shops around the Republic with his work and visitors can come to the Dingle location and actually try their hand at making pottery. The Dingle location also includes an extensive showroom with the many goods you can purchase. The building is large and light and airy. It's a pleasant place to browse. We met Louis Mulcahy himself and found him to be very congenial and friendly. We bought coffee mugs, which have made a nice, practical souvenir of this stop. Mugs were, like most items, available in a variety of glazes. If it's in your price range, I'd recommend the dinnerware or sets lamps. (Unfortunately, these weren't in our budget!) A coffee mug was about $15 US and prices went up from there. A small teapot, for example, was nearly $100 US. A set of dinnerware for four (dinner plate,...

Brian de Staic Jewellers: A Kerry Gem

Brian de Staic is one of Ireland's leading goldsmiths. In business since 1982, all his jewelry is hand made from the finest materials. A wide selection of items - brooches, pendants, earrings, rings, bracelets and items for men - are available; most are available in sterling silver, 10K gold, 14K gold or 18K gold. All items are inspired by Celtic tradition. Prices vary, of course, but I think something can be found to fit almost any budget. Brian de Staic offers Ogham pendants and earrings that I highly recommend. Ogham is the ancient Irish form of writing. The artists at de Staic's studios will engrave the earrings and/or pendant with your choice of word in Ogham. Most people have their names engraved, as I did. This makes a truly unique, quality and personalized memento. At least $25 US (sterling silver cross, for example) and up.

Muckross Walled Garden Centre: Garden Centre in Kerry

The Walled Garden Centre, at Muckross, was officially opened in April 2000. Since then, the centre has become a popular destination in its own right. Designed to form an integral part of the world famous Muckross Gardens, the centre opens out onto the Victorian Walled Garden. It is further complemented by the recreation of a mid 19th century parterre and recently restored Edwardian Glasshouses. All manner of gardening items, plants, etc..

Used with care, it is suitable for ovens, dishwashers and microwaves. We produce a complete range of both table and gift ware using our distinctive honey and blue glazes. The rich glazes are layered, one on another; they combine with sponge motifs and brush work to produce pieces, all of which are unique and individual. Each piece is fired to 1280°c.
