This is the place to be after 9pm in Tralee on a Friday night. It’s buzzing and humming and the pubs are crowded with revellers, both inside and out (but especially out!).
The young people’s spot is called Ruairi’s. I drank at the "old" people’s spot a few doors down. I think "old" is anything over 25:-) Unfortunately I didn’t get the name of the place but the atmosphere was great with lots of candles in bottles dribbling wax onto the bar top.
We stayed till well after 1.30pm and I found people most friendly and ready to strike up a conversation.
The bar service was quick and smiling and we had no problems finding a bar stool, even though the place was mobbed.
I even spotted a well known tv actor in one corner having a quiet pint.
This is the trendy in spot for professionals to gather from 6pm to 9pm on a Friday.
I loved the place.
It was old fashioned, hard wooden seats, wooden walls, a real old pub atmosphere and a very good live guitarist playing my favourite songs. There was a mixed crowd of every age group but mostly, yes, professionals trying to be cool.
I would have stayed all night except that it was almost midnight and we were way past trendy time. On to explore the post-9pm pubs in the Square.
