Woolly Mammoth

It takes up most of the space in the room, so I do not even want to think how massive this animal was. Must have been a wonderful sight to see them in their days of glory. The skull comes from the North Sea area. The tusks of the skull is 10 feet long and it is the largest complete woolly mammoth skull in the world.

Dinosaur eggs

On display you will be able to see the 70 - 80 million year old Dinosaur eggs that comes from China. Almost looks like cup cakes baked into a bigger cake made from stone to me. As I stood in front of the eggs I could not help but wonder what I would do if any of those eggs decided to crack open with a dinosaur appearing in front of my eyes. Would probably have run back to the car and locked it. lol

Riding Horses in Ventry - Dingle
SusanVC profile photo

Do do do ride the horses at Long's Riding Stables in Ventry (just outside of Dingle in the Dingle Penninsula)! We took the hour and half package for beginners that goes up into the mountains and overlooks the bay and beach. It was awesome! I am frankly afraid of horses but had to do it for my daughter who is not. The horses are so well behaved and the staff so friendly, helpful, and skilled that it was thoroughly enjoyable. I'd pay twice as much and only wish we had done it longer.

The ride goes up into the mountain with all of the horses in a line. We did trot a few times but it was perfect. Not too much and not too little. There are two or three staff with the group so you never feel overwhelmed or afraid the horse will take off. In addition, the owner has so many horses to ensure that the horses only have to do one ride before stopping and going back out to pasture. The staff member with me told me that the owner does that on purpose so that the horses are well taken care of and not overworked or abused. I loved that fact!

I'll do it again when we return and I highly recommend it to any going to Dingle.

SusanVC Says:  This is a very nice bed & breakfast in Ventry//Dingle. A very welcoming and very patient couple from England run it. They actually waited up until after midnight for my daughter and I in June of 2009. We ended up waking them up at 2:30 in the morning which should have...

an siopa beag

Paidi and Maires siopa , is the last spot where you can buy a bite to eat before heading around the Slea Head route,,,,,,,you could always pop into the Pub across the road and cancel your trip around the Peninsula...................

What to buy: Fentons scones are a must ,,,,,,,look out for them being delivered by a stocky wee fellow with reddish hair,,,you might get a discount if you you catch him at the delivery van.......

What to pay: 2 Euros a bag..........oh, better to buy some butter and jam as well..........

Warnings and Dangers

As dark as two in the morning

follow me boy

Be carefull when heading home from the pub at night , as West Kerry is the darkest place on the planet ( on a cloudy night),,,,,,also the roads are narrow and every body likes to have an extra puint of Guinness before they drive home...99% of the locals drive nice and slow , but you always get 1 maniac........
