Nightclubs and bars in Kilkenny

Matt the Miller's is just one of Kilkenny's many landmark pubs. It's also probably one of the largest and is indeed hard to miss - the big pink building just over the bridge facing towards the castle.

They do great barfood and in the night it's a haven of loud music, sometimes live bands, and plenty of activity and fun.

the marble city bar is a very nice eating and drinking establishment on high street in central kilkenny. the exterior of this pub is traditional but the interior is modern with comfortable leather booths. good beer selection.

"The Marble City" is one of Kilkenny's many names, arising from the vein of black marble found here. My sister and I stopped in at this little pub for a quick drink one afternoon, and found a quiet, friendly crowd - mostly elderly gents. I'm told it livens up at night though.
Kilkenny high street is lined with colourful little pubs - it's so tempting to pop into each one for a jar, though you'd be in a right ol' state if you were to do that!

Kilkenny's No. 1 cocktail bar, with cocktail makers and shakers. Top DJ's, live bands and Karaoke nights. Banana Mud Slide, B-52's to name just a couple of cocktails if they dont sell it they dont make it!!!

Dress Code: Casual

Desperate for some live Irish music (harder to find than you might think), we found what we were looking for at the Anna Conda one Friday night. The music started around 9.30pm (which is fairly typical) but you need to get there a fair bit earlier if you want a good seat. The Anna Conda is long and narrow and if you end up at the far side of the bar you wont hear much.
If you're looking for live music, just ask around in town and check out the flyers in the pub windows. Other live music venues include the Pumphouse, Kytelers, Matt the Millers, Rafter Dempseys...

Dress Code: Come as you are

The owners of this fine establishment are not afraid to jump up and shout "Disco is not a dirty word!" Coda offers a world of vibrant music - funk, disco, dub, hip-hop. You name it it's here. Admission is generally around the 10euro mark, but you get the very best in dj's, drink, and if you're lucky, live music. I don't know who the owners of this place are, but it's clear to see that they've got it going on. Drinks are expenxive, and the bouncers can be a little unpleasant, but this club is like a badly built Russian space shuttle - once it gets going there's no coming back.

Dress Code: You've got to make some kind of effort, to prove you're not a knacker.

Club 51 is attached to the 'super pub' O'Faoilans. It has recently been revovated and now it has the appearence of something you'd see in a James Bond movie. The laether furniture and furry walls, however beautiful cannot hide the fact that the place is swarming with people looking for trouble. Perhaps the owner thought by doing the place up, he would distract people's attention from the ever existant fight going on, or the unconscious drunk in the corner puking all over himself. He was wrong. Fun can be had there, yet a certain degree of caution must be had. Although this can be said about any nightclub in the country, Club51 seems to me to have that extra edge. Exciting for some, not for me.

Dress Code: not the most strict place around. shoes would help.

Coda is located on the main street in kilkenny city and plays alternative music. the standard of djing is quite high so i would recommend Coda for anyone who is quite simply tired of dancing to 50cent or beyonce etc. its expensive to get in (€10) and really only starts to get going from 00:30. i have spent many a memorable night dancing here so i would recommend it above anywhere else in Kilkenny.

Dress Code: becoming more formal but still quite casual in comparison with other kilkenny clubs.
