It's over the Thomondbridge off the Ennis road, facing King Johns Castle. Yes its just a big old stone with a chipped corner. But it means a lot to local history & has come to symbolise Limerick in the same way Dublin's symbol is its castle. The treaty stone refers to the Treaty of Limerick signed in 1691 between the Irish/French and English/Dutch forces, signed on the actual stone.
Actually, the reason why the stone is chipped away is that some ppl took some chippings and sold/kept them as souvenirs. Bet theyre probably for sale on E-bay or sthg...
The Treaty of Limerick was signed on this stone in 1691 by both English and Irish armies after the siege of Limerick.
The stand which is home to the stone bears the city's motto & coat of arms.
