Train Station, Limerick
Colbert Station combines both train and bus terminals, as well as a number of shops and cafes, and is practically in the middle of the city. You can catch a train or a bus to most places in Ireland from Limerick, it appears that most train lines go through or near it.
Colbert Station is situated on Parnell Street in Limerick. It is a short walk to and from the city centre. (However i would recommend a taxi if you have luggage).
From Colbert Station one can arrive in Limerick by train from many town's and cities in Ireland.
This station is also where the busses to the County and the rest of Ireland depart.
Inside Colbert Station there is a nice cafe which serve's alcohol, sanwich bar and shop. Train & Bus ticket's can also be purchased here.
There is a taxi rank directly outside the station and taxi's are easily available.
Please see website for train & bus times.
Don't be fooled by the picture - from the 'west on track' pressure group. 2010 saw the reopening of the train line between Limerick and Galway. This is great if you are exploring the west coast of Ireland, and eventually you should be able to get all the way up to Sligo by train.
There are about 4 to 5 railcars a day that make the two hour trip from Limerick to Galway. The bus does it in 90 minutes and is a fair chunk cheaper. Still, if you want to take the scenic route and don't mind the cost then it is the way to go. Just hope the toilet (there is only one) is working as when I travelled on the route recently it was filled to the brim with crap.
Train and bus station is on Parnell St, which is central-ish. It's 10 min brisk walk from O'Connell St (the main St)
The bus service from Limerick is more extensive than the train, which is almost exclusively to Dublin and Cork or Tralee(both via Limerick Junction)
By bus you can go to Tipperary, Cork, Galway, Waterford, Shannon Airport, Tralee, Killarney, Ennis, Rosslare Harbour, Athlone, Dublin, Sligo and Derry.
Buses from Limerick city to other villages and towns in Co. Limerick are expensive and not particularly frequent, so everybody gets a car as soon as they're old enough and can afford it.
