Cathal McCarthy has created a 30ft steel sculpture, which after some heated argument is now sited on the southern entrance to the village.
I could see such a sculpture in it's array of nursery-school colours graceing a public piazza in Barcelona or Chicago, but a small rural village in the west of Ireland ?
Local debate remains heated on the merits of the thing, which is based on a harp or accordian and is called 'the player'. Can't be much else to argue about around here.

Let's face it, this restaurant is never going to win itself a Michelen star.
On the other hand, despite it's unassuming location behind a texaco petrol station, this restaurant has been doing well for a few years now.
The fare tends to be on the traditional side, with good steaks and other Irish bred stuff with no, two or four legs served with half a field of potatoes.
A reliable choice if you are on the main N17, west coast route. Just look for the petrol station.
Favorite Dish: Medium steak

Address: Main road, Ballindine
Favorite thing: Passing through this village on the N17, there is a little Chinese take-away that has a great name :
"Wok and roll". Makes me smile , everytime.
