Achill Island - Atlantic Drive

by globetrott

Take the Atlantic Drive - just follow the signs for " Scenic route " That road with the plenty of parking-spaces could be a wonderful place to park your motorhome overnight in in great surrounding - but it is really very windy there and I even had to leave such a parking in the middle of the night, as the wind almost blew my motorhome into to the cliffs.

the old watch-tower on Achill Island

by globetrott

Achill Island is a quiet island in the north-west of Ireland and it is connected to the mainland by a bridge. In Achill Island you will not meet a lot of tourists - not even during the high season between May and September... Take the 'Atlantic Drive' - the coast-road in the south to see this lovely island and pass by this old fortification- and watch-tower. Like many other remains of ancient times this tower is privately owned today and you may NOT step up there in order to take a look around :-((

Afternoon tea with a nun

by sabsi

After giving up half way to climb Croagh Patrick I walked down and sat down in the cafe of the visitors centre to wait for my boyfriend who went all the way up. A few old ladies and a nun asked me whether we they can sit at my table and after a while they invited me for a tea and we had a lovely afternoon tea and a nice chat. That's Ireland for me!
