Westport is a great place for lightly entertainment for all tastes and ages. There are more pubs than weeks in the year, and many of them play traditional music with live sessions in the evenings. Two of my favourite are McGings and Matt Molloys (Matt Molloy is a member of the Chieftains www.mattmolloy.com)
For those people who aren't too keen on Irish music, there are a number of pubs that play the latest chart music. Two that are good are The Porterhouse and Cosy Joes.
Westport particularly comes alive at the weekends, when many irish people come from around the country to have a bit of 'Craic' - which is Irish word for fun - pronounced crack, and not some illegal substance :) Many bars stay open until 1pm or later.
There are two local nightclubs - one on the castlebar road, and Oscars near the Octagon. Both are within 5 minutes walking distance of most of the bars. The one on the Castlebar road is a newly opened nightclub with two floors playing different eras of music. It's open friday, saturday and sunday.
It's a good idea to get there early at the weekend to ensure you get in as it gets packed. Oscars plays live music and is open on friday and saturday nights. Both nightclubs usually close at about 2.30am.

I was in Westport recently (Ocober 2005) for a Stag weekend. They seem to be remarkably more tolerant here of the antics of drunken single-sex groups than say, Dublin.
We were not refused entry to any venue - they seemed only too welcome, and even gave away free beer in a 'Tiger beer' promotion in the 'Porterhouse' bar, served up by an especially slinkly little slip of a lass.
It would seem that local businessman Joe O?Malley the proprietor of the Porterhouse & Cosy Joe?s Bars has got something right - both places were full to the rafters of contented and merry punters the night I was there.
Dress Code: Very low key, trainers and jeans all seemed to be acceptable
