The Judge and Jury: Where it all Started

The Judge and Jury, or simply called "the Judge" by the locals, was the first pub I ever visited after I turned "drinking age." Thus, it holds a very special place in my heart. The Judge and Jury's namesake is due to it sitting across the street from the Meath County Courthouse.

I can remember the days when the Judge was simply a one story pub and it's main feature was a fish aquarium by the booth in the front by the door. Now, it has been completely remodeled. The aquarium is gone, but they now have a 2nd floor and all of the woodwork has been redone. Flat panel TVs have replaced the smaller tube TV's. But one thing that can still be counted on is they will either have soccer (football to the non-American folk) or horse racing playing on them.

The Judge, as it is located across and slightly down the street from Trim Castle, was a popular place for the cast of Braveheart to have their drinkies. This includes Mel Gibson himself.

The Steps: A Good 'Local' Place

by happyhourkid Written Sep 8, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Although still a welcoming place to grab your pints, the Steps is definitely a place frequented more by locals than tourists. The bar is a little more "old school" than in some of the other remodeled Market Street bars like the Judge. The furniture and the decor are older, but it does offer a fireplace that you can get right up next to on those extra cool nights.

    Zango's: Avoid at all costs

    by zone_de_guerre Written Jun 28, 2007

This place has to be one of the biggest kips I have ever been in. Full of argumentative kids (nightclubs are meant to be over 18) getting sick, hammered drunk making sarcastic ridicilous comments. The pints I found to be warm and terrible and the dance floor was packed like a sardine tin. Do yourself a favour and get yourself up to Dublin !

The Abbey: Another Good Market Street Option

by happyhourkid Written Sep 8, 2006
    The Abbey

The Abbey is another good nightlife option and ideally located a few buildings down Market Street from the Judge and Jury. Like other area bars, the Abbey seems to have also benefitted from Ireland's recent economic boom and has been remodeled as well.
