The Harp Tavern: Authentic Irish Dancing

In front of the Harp Tavern

We lucked out, on Monday nights across the street from the Sligo City Hotel where we happened to be staying, is the Harp Tavern who has authentic Irish music. It's a lovely pub and dancers came in for a round of Irish dancing, not the Riverdance style, more a square dance with partners, so intricate and lively - we loved every minute of it.

Every Sunday (2008) at 1 p.m. the "Jazz Lads" play a unique style of Jazz and Blues.

Plenty of parking too.

Dress Code: Everyone was dressed casually - mostly jeans.

Pub: Good Night Out at McHugh's Bar!

3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

McHugh's bar is on one of the main roads that pases through Sligo town centre. It is a very welcoming place to drink, the beer is averagely priced and people are nice. Great place for people watching and fills up quite quickly. Has music and/or entertainment most evenings. Mix of young and older customers, lots of tourists pop in too. Worth a visit!

Dress Code: I have been allowed in wearing trainers but generally the customers are smartly dressed.

The Garavogue, Along the river

If you are looking for nightlife then SLigo isn't the place to visit. However, there are so many pubs in Sligo that are full of people and quite lively. The Pubs at Strandhill and Rosses Point (where 2 main capsites are) are very friendly, but less crowded then those in the actuall town. There are livelier and more 'Jolly' Pubs all around the main town - and you'll be certain to have a nice relaxing time.
