Bistro Bianconi: Get in early or you'll be waiting all night......
This is a very Italian restaurant in the middle of a very Irish town. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere really great. The only problem is that they don't take bookings, so you have to turn up and line up and believe me, you'd better behave yourself and take your proper turn on the queue or you could have a physical fight on your hands.
Favorite Dish: The pizzas are very much of the gourmet variety with toppings, you've never dreamed of. There are plenty of pastas, soups and Italian meat specialities as well and one is really spoiled for choice. I've been there a couple of times and really couldn't tell you what my favourite dish was. There was just so much to choose from. I guess at the end of the day, it is the pizzas that have given this place a really great reputation. There is also a take away version of the restaurant on High Street if you don't fancy the wait. But I can assure you that if you do have a lengthy wait, it will be well worth it.Related to:

Abrakebabra: INteresting Fast Food Option!
When you have been out drinking in Sligo, your munchie options are limited as the food places close fairly early. When all else fails you turn to fast food chains to appease your appetite and the popular franchise "Abrakebabra" comes into this catagory.
There is a branch in the main road into Sligo (near to McHugh's bar) and it is open when some of the other shops have closed. The food is standard fast food - chips, kebabs, burgers and other side orders etc and is off a reasonable quality. The price is very cheap and they have many meal deals to bring the price down even further.
If you don't expect top quality food you will not be disappointed - filling and simple but hell on the cholesterol :-)
coach lane: best restaurant of our 10 day trip in the north of
we had requested a restaurant near the bus station and were directed to coach lane, part of donahy's pub. we have travelled extensively in france and i would say this restaurant rates at least 1 michelin star and possibly 2. the seafood was prepared excellently. i chose two appetizers and couldn't finish all. one, the foie gras appetizer was so rich and delicious i could not stop at a prudent amount. i paid for it in the middle of the night with vague dyspepsia, but it was worth it. do not miss this restaurant if you are in sligo town.
Favorite Dish: i must say the foie gras, but next time i will eat less! all entrees came with freshly prepared vegetables and each dish was perfect.Related to:

Bistro Bianconi Restaurant (& Take Away): Gorgeous Italian Treat
The Bistro Bianconi restauraunt is a fantastic Italian restaurant where you would least expect to find one. There is nothing bad about this restaurant - apart from the fact that the portions are so big I'm sure it is physically impossible to finish the meal!
On our visit we were unable to book as there was only two of us, the restaurant is exceptionally busy and on a Friday and Saturday evening you will need to go early to ensure you get a table. The staff are accomodating and friendly. The atmosphere is lovely - the tables are quite close together but everyone is engrossed in their own conversations and the buzz is infectious. The manager does the room and makes genuine chit chat with customers, remembers what you have said and comes back to discuss further. His advice about portion size came too late for me and I suffered as a result (but in a nice eyes bigger than stomach way!!). We ate pizza and pasta dishes, had the house wine which was fine and when we couln't foinish our pizza the staff boxed it up AND held it while we went drinking! That's good service :-)
Favorite Dish: The menu is full of nice treats - we had calzone and the largest spaghetti bolognese I have ever seen!
Restaurant Bianconi: Bianconis Italian Restaurant
This restaurant is on the main street in Sligo (O'Connell Street i think its called) and is next to burger king. It is quite deceiving on the outside ...it looks like a small pizza shop but once you enter the door it turns out to be a rather large restaurant.
We visited the restaurant in Nov 2002 and 2003 on a number of occasions and always found the food and service to be of a high quality. Some friends visited recently and found it to be the same!
Favorite Dish: All the pizza's are fantastic and the desserts are a mustRelated to:

Sher E Punjab, Indain Restaurant: AVOID! The Sher E Punjab Indian Restaurant, Sligo
This Indian is to be found at 7-8 Market Street Sligo.
I had the mis-fortune of dinning here.
I had the Chicken tikka, it had a strange taste to it and after deliberation the waiter took it away and brought back exactly the same dish.
The chicken tasted awful, and I am fairly sure that it had been re-head from the previous day
Favorite Dish: Avoid the Chicken they reheat it !
McDonalds and Buger King: Fast Food
In sligo there is a McDonalds and a Burger King. They are right near eachother, and i had this food for dinner everyday! Back home in London, i always have McDonalds over any other fast food restaurant. However, When i was in Sligo, i liked the Burger King better, the chips were lovely. If you dont like fast food, then you can always go to the pubs and get a nice homely dinner!
I had no problems with this hotel at all. It was clean, tidy, service was ok, good parking...more
