For those of you who are fans of the work of W B Yeats, Sligo is the place to be! The grave is way out in Drumcliff but here in the town itself is the Yeats Memorial Building (run by the Yeats Society who work for free to highight the works of Yeats). The building was given to the society about 50 years ago.
Look out for the very funky statue of Yeats a short distance away - it's stunning!
At the memorial building you can listen to lectures and they run a regular summer school for the many tourists who want to "do" Yeats. This place is a great starting point :-)
The Sligo art gallery is also housed in this building.

    W. B. Yeats Memorial

Follow the tracks of W.B. Yeats.
The area around Sligo offers many possibilities to get to know the life of the irish poet W. B. Yeats. In Sligo town is the Yeats Memorial (see photo) and the Yeats Museum.
His grave is in Drumcliff where the inscription on his gravestone ends with the famous words: 'Cast a cold eye on life, on death, horseman pass bye!'.

Culture: Sligo is know as Yeates Country - Why? W. B. Yeates one of Irelands best know poets, his great-grandfather was a rector in Drumcliff, Sligo just a few miles outside the town. There is also a museum dedicated to Yeats in the Town. A must when visiting Sligo.
