Comeragh Mountains

Most visitors to Ireland overlook the Comeraghs: the Wicklow Way and the Kerry mountains are much better known, but the Comeraghs are a genuine hidden gem.Like all Irish mountains, they are really very small, but since the ascent is usually from sea level, you usually do plenty of climbing. What's most special about the Comeraghs is the combination of sheer physical beauty - gorgeous hidden lakes, sheer cliffs and views of rolling farmland one way and chains of hills the other - and the almost complete lack of other walkers, even more so if you hike during the week. The Comeraghs are close to Dungarvan and Waterford, and there are abundant day-hike and even short afternoon walk possibilities.
As always when hiking, be prepared: if you're doing a big hike, wear good boots (hiking in Ireland often takes you over boggy land, so even on a nice day you'll appreciate leather boots), and pack...
