Tramore - Waterford's three mile beach

Tramore Town is built beside the sea about 7 miles from Waterford City. It's well worth a visit, Winter or Summer, but I prefer it in the Winter when it's not so crowded and the beaches are welcoming for walkers and other beach pursuits.

Sunday mornings are one of my favourite times to walk here and this morning was no exception. The sun was shining and although it was cold the sky was blue and the air was crisp and clear. As I walked I watched canoeists train in the sea, people walk their dogs, children building sandcastles, kites flying, and even one elderly man stripped to the waist, sunbathing in the cold November sunshine. It must work - he was brown as a berry.

If the tide is in, you can still walk along the wide prom that flanks about a mile of this gorgeous beach.

Across the road there are plenty of stalls, a couple of shops, a surf school, coffee shop etc. At the top of the prom you'll find plenty of great amusement arcades, chip shops, and good hotels.

Tramore is a day out for the entire family at any time of the year.

There's a regular bus service that you can pick up at the bus station on the Quay.

    Seaside resort Tramore

Make a daytrip by bus to Tramore, which is one of the leading seaside resorts in Ireland.
The town of Tramore is very touristic with a big Amusement Parc, but the coastline is very beautiful. It has a 5 km long sandy beach (see photo), a fine promenade and many cliffs. The Doneraile Walk which leads out of the town offers a brilliant view of the bay.
