Derry City walls alonside the Apprentice Boys Hall

Derry is also known as the Maiden City. That's because since the walls were built, they have never been brought down. All of the walls you see are original. Well, apart from the stretch that construction workers managed to collapse when they built the Millenium Theatre! You can walk all around the walls and over the 7 gates. You get a great view over the Bogside with its world famous murals and Free Derry corner. Walk past St Colm's cathedral with the old cemetry. Get a close look at the Army's watch/listening tower to keep a check on the people in the Bogside - the tower is not really nice to look at, but pretty interesting nevertheless :o) Check out the Apprentice Boys Hall along the way. There are many points where you can get on/off the walls, so no problem to get down quickly to get a closer look at things and then continue your walk. The picture was taken walking down the walls along Artillery Street. There are also plenty of signs at all points of historical interest giving you a bit of a history injection every now and then. They really are worth reading! Oh, and try to see past the graffiti that can be a bit annoying.
