by dreamworld

There is a very pretty waterfall (the highest in the country) south of Dublin (about 30 minutes drive). I can't remember the name.Another great place...>>> as shown on this picture <<< are the Cliffs of Mohair, in the Western part of the island. The Conemarra area (north-west) is so pretty with dozens of lakes and so green hills. Roads are sometimes very narrow in some areas, take caution if you drive.Kilkenny is a great city to have fun with 'real' Irish pubs and people singing in the street.I also like Galway which is a small but interesting place. And the Dingles area is also worth a visit if you like cliffs, rocks and small secluded beaches (to swim there you really should be 'crazy'...).

Visit Castles! This is Kilkenny Castle, a beautifully done re-creating of Victorian opulence. Across the street in the old stables is the Kilkenny Design Center - a very nice craft center, and a good cafe with a nice soup, tea, and dessert for very reasonable price.

No visit to Donegal would be complete without a trip to Glenveagh National Park. The history of the Park is fascinating, with mass evictions of the tenents by a greedy landlord, tales of hunting and fishing expeditions, ownership by millionaire Americans, and donation to the people to whom it should belong. But the real glory of the park is its magnificent scenary...mountains, lakes, gardens, paths, and castle fit to enchant the heart of every visitor. I'm going to be developing a travelogue of Glenveagh pix, so check it out!

GO TO DONEGAL!!!!!!

by kathycollins

We went to a monday night sesion at Teac Hudibeg in Bunbeg. There were 18 musicians jamming Irish traditional music, including 7 violins. No cover charge, just join in and enjoy the craic. This was truly the most memorable experience I've had in all my trips to Ireland. We closed the pub - walked out with the owner...we just hated to leave...but when we left we had lists of sesions and a ceili planned each night that week, so we went on a pub tour of Donegal.

. If you like crystal, I HIGHLY recommend visiting Kinsale Crystal. The artisan who owns and operates this shop makes his crystal cuttings with a sharper angled deep cut, producing more sparkling crystal than other makers. It's much more beautiful than modern Waterford, at reasonable prices. Click here for his website : KinsaleCrystal.and read the page titled Deep Cutting! The town of Kinsale is really wonderful to visit with lots of other crafts and interesting shops! more like fondest wish...if anyone wants to surprise me with the Seacoast Centerpiece from Kinsale Crystal, I'd love to accept it!!!Now,really, I love Irish crystal and you can't find any more beautiful

visit Dublin Castle! Take the tour to see the State Apartments - the ceremonial hall for inaugurations, state receptions, and governmental ceremony. The Portrait gallery, the Wegdewood room filled with Wedgewood china, beautiful plaster friezes, Waterford crystal chandiliers... the tour helps you believe this IS a castle! The outside of Dublin castle leaves the visitor wanting more... and fortunately its there! Dublin Castle gardens are lovely. There's a great celtic maze, and this two-headed snake (I thought they were all chased out of Ireland?)

Try the people.

by pantulis

Pubs are the main reference. Enter any of them, the cozier the better, sit down, relax yourself and watch the local life arise from behind a pint of Guiness. They are not difficult to find, the whole Ireland is spotted with them. Beware of pubs for tourists, but even these are nice on their own. Having a walk through Temple Bar at 9 o'clock after a nice dinner at a restaurant near Grafton Street on a clear night. There was music coming from the pubs, music coming from the streets, music, music everywhere!

by polecat

You must visit the northern part of Ireland. The coast line is wonderful and full of history. Then travel down the west coast to see all the things you see in the pictures. I have driven the coast of California and this area is even more amazing. The picture below is from an area near Portrush. There is a visitor center near by for a settlement dating back to 5000 BC. To find this and many other sites travel along the A2 to the west from Ballycastle. I stayed in another hostel just outside of Dunfanaghy. I had been riding the entire day in rain and was wet and tired. The hostel was in a converted farm. When I arrived there was a peat fire burning an a warm room. This is located just west of town on the N56. The owner is a retired army officer. Each night they would come around and if there where 8 or more a taxi was hired and we went to different villages in the area to listen to music...

The Southwest coast...the Killarney area is beautiful. My grandfather was born in Ireland and most of my ancestors were from Ireland so I felt an attachment to the country and some melancholy at leaving.

by D_Shannon

Travel. I loved the passing scenery and I was amazed that one country should be so blessed with such a variety of natural beauty. In order to really take advantage of this, I followed the advice of VTers and rented a car. This turned out, however, to be a rather expensive and harrowing experience. If I could do it again and had only two weeks, I'd be tempted to join a tour like Paddywagon - a small minibus providing tours to backpacker types.
