Get your feet out of bed, find...

by Woutstes

Get your feet out of bed, find a car and travel the countryside! Don't drive past any old castle without peeking in! When the darkness of night creeped up on us, we, the brave, started on the 'only' dirt road in the Republic (at the very northern tip; Malin Head) and did not get much further after we played 4x4 with a normal car. And when, 3 hrs later and 3 rain showers later, our car was still not willing to trace it's steps back to the tarred road, we had to explore the Irish friendliness first hand by knocking on the first house's door for help. And were they friendly! They gave us a fire to dry and a drink and dropped us at a guest house for the night! The next morning a farmer and his son helped us to get the car out of the mud.

drive through the Ring of...

by eaglespirit

drive through the Ring of Kerry - and stop at as many places as possible -- especially the Ballycarbery castle. It wasn't renovated for tourists and is pretty much out in the open, so you really feel the magic of it and are free to explore. There are so many 'best memories' that it's hard to chose just one! There was the time there were cattle in the road that refused to let us pass. Or the Cliffs of Moher majestic beauty. Or the mysterious silence of the Rock of Cashel. Perhaps it's the lush wonder of Killarney National Park....

by HAWLEYJ

Visit the Cliffs of Moher, and drink a Guinness from the plant in Dublin. They are on separate sides of the country, sure, but they are each worth the trip! Facing death on the Cliffs of Moher. Unlike most people, who go directly to the lookout by way of the highway, I met a local at the youth hostel and he took me up there from the shoreline. There was more than one time I praised God for his protection. Read more about that under my warnings, if you are interested.

by clairo

You cannot miss the Arayn Isalnds just off the west coast. Standing on the edge of those cliffs you really do belive you have come to the end of the earth. And the magic is tangible, you feel certain that if you spent the night there, all alone, you could see all sorts of things!

by clairo

This may seem silly, but take a train across the country, through the middle from east to west. Maybe the Dublin to Galway route. There is NOTHING but peat bog. This may seem boring, but it was fascinating to me, it makes you realize that there are still places that are so lonely and beautiful. Truly if peacful solitude is what you are looking for, Ireland has it

by feline01

Rent a bicycle and ride around the lakes of Killarney. Spend an evening in pub listening to live music and watching local dancing. Plant your butt, bum whatever you want to call it in a field and watch the clouds. Just don't plant it near sheep poo. My first trip in 1989 taking an overnight ferry from Swansea, Wales to Cork across the Irish Sea and seeing the country up-close for the first time.

Hit the bars and The disco's. I really Enjoy Peacocks in Maam Cross!!! I hate leaving Ireland. Everytime i leave I feel like i am leaving home. Not to sure when I will be back. When I will see my family and friends again. This is a good thing though cause thus far it has kept me comming back. Like they say 'there is no place like home' ( or home away from home )

not forget the man who made the modern Ireland possible. Or, as some say, betrayed the Republic, but I believe that he wanted the Republic just as much as the anti-Treaty parties, maybe even more, but things just went wrong and the next thing I see is Míceál lying lifeless in Beál na mBláth... Maybe if he had lived, things would be different now. Hey, Big Fellah, where are you now that we need you the most? Ahh, stupid question. We shot you down. I regret it, but there´s nothing left to be done but fulfill Míceál´s dream, making it come true. We were stupid but it´s not too late to correct some of our mistakes. Keep up the flag and remember those who died for us. Míceál and others, may you rest in peace.
