Rucksack is always good. You should take into account the humid and rainy weather. Good comfortable shoes are essential. Warm and waterproof clothes, an umbrella. Raincoat is useless, because the weather is changeable and the humidity will just make you sweat. You can find most of the things in Ireland.

Well I had a rucksack. That's my choice. RAINCOAT!! Good waterproof shoes if you like hiking or mountainclimbing. There's a lot of bog in Connemara, and rocks. I didn't have any difficulties with camping. For example in Inishmaan the locals told us that there's no problem camping on the beach, they were really nice to us (though at the night kids came and threw two big stones and broke our tent..)Anyways, just remeber that it rains a lot, sometimes sooo windy and the weather can change very quickly. So you should bring your swimsuit and the jumper at the same time.

Don't forget your waterproofs! It rains even in summer, and it can be heavy. Watch out for the restrictions on food items that can be carried accross the water!a full list can be obtained by contacting the tourist board, but basically dont take fresh or tinned meat!

Bring Your Own Music or Suffer in the Car

by TRimer

One thing you might want to consider bringing if you are driving is music. The radio stations outside of Dublin are horrible if they exist at all. Desperate for tunes, we bought some traditional Irish music on cassette. Really wish we had brought some tapes with us.

A regular suitcase and a piece of 'carry-on' luggage for the aircraft. A second suitcase can be taken, but if you are on a tour bus, you will no doubt be charged a daily fee for the second suitcase per person. It cost us $3.00 per day, Canadian funds, etra, but we found it was worth it, to have what we wanted. Sneakers, or good walking shoes...comfortable, and a pair of dress shoes/loafers for visits to appropriate places. Nothing really necessary, out of the ordinary. We found most, if not all items were readily available where we stayed, and the motels/hotels were very accomodating with ironing boards, irons, etc. We used a digital video camera and a 'thow-away' camera for stills. We were able to purchase video tapes and anything we needed while there. Just make certain you speak to your tourist company to ensure you take the proper 'three pronged plug' for their style of hydro. Of...

Oh without a doubt bring a jacket, jumper, something that will keep you warm. The weather isnt great over here, there may be the occasional good day but it's mostly rainy or cloudy. Wouldnt advise you to bring any shorts...you defiantly wont be needing them in Dublin. Plus you'll stand out more if you go around wearing shorts...dont want that now do you?

Be prepared for a soaking

by KennetRose

You're on this beach on the end of the Dingle[1] peninsula chilling out and soaking up the balmy late summer sunshine scented with the rich tang of the wide Atlantic, when suddenly this barest wisp of a grey cloud races towards the shore. Cover up quick, you are about to get a soaking. The West of Ireland is like that. Make sure you always have a waterproof to hand.[1] Actually it's the Iveagh peninsula. I just looked again at the original photo and on that you can clearly see the Skelligs on the horizon.

Backpacks are best if you are able. Bags with wheels are fine in the cities and towns. Sweater, raingear, umbrellas required for all times of the year. From October to March is the coldest period where warmer clothes are needed. Everything is available in shops, supermarkets and pharmacies found in most towns and villages. Bring a waterproof camera bag and light sensitive film in Winter! If camping make sure that your tent is waterproof by throwing a few buckets of water on it! Beach gear I wouldn't be too optimistic about, although there are some fantastic beaches all around the coast, it's just that you get wet and cold before you even get near the water!! For outdoor trekking, waterproof boots, warm clothing and a compass. Buy the maps locally and ALWAYS advise a local person or police station where you are trekking to and when you expect to return. If you have something small to...
