Beautiful beach on Dingle Peninsula by hevbell I think my favourite place on my trip had to be the Dingle Peninsula and the colourful little town of Dingle itself. We visited on a gorgeous sunny day and were able to make the most of the scenery and beautiful sandy beaches this area has in abundance. See my Dingle page for more pics and info Leave a Comment Directions: North of Killorglin, West of Tralee, South of Shannon, on the West Coast.

by kathycollins Walk along the beaches! This one is along the north Dingle coast near Bandon. It looks like a tropical isle, but those are northern waters - no swimming without a wetsuit unless you like cold water! Leave a Comment

Dingle Harbor by TRimer Surrounded by hills on three sides, the harbor town of Dingle is one of the world's natural beauty spots. It’s a lively and attractive place with a picturesque harbor, brightly painted buildings and lots of pubs with live music. Dingle in the Irish language is "Daingean Uí Chúis". "Daingean" means fortress; "Uí Chúis" is generally accepted as translating to Hussey (as in the Fortress of Hussey, the Husseys being a Flemish family that came to the area in the 13th Century). About 1,200 people live in Dingle, but it serves the larger population of the surrounding countryside, and in the summer months it caters for many visitors. DIngle is renowned for its restaurants, most of which offer excellent local seafood. Also, Dingle has some good shopping. There is a craft village, the Ceardlann na Coille located on the road leading west from the pier towards Milltown. There are several art galleries in the town as well, featuring the works of local artists. The town’s most famous attraction is a dolphin named Fungie. Fungie! by sabsi This wild dolphin has been living in Dingle bay for more then 25 years and he won't leave. Some say it might have to do with the big net across the bay ;-))) Nah, seriously. You can get on fishing boats that chase him around to see him (7 IEP). You get the money back if he doesn't appear. And he lets people swim with him as well!!! The boats leave every morning at 8 and all you need it 10 IEP, a reservation and a wetsuit! Better value than the trips for 7 IEP! Even if you stay on the boat and not go swimming with him! by Willem_Cahin We did a week hiking/cliffwalking at the Dingle Peninsula! Great. You are really a part of the country, close to farms, sheeps, dogs....!! Meet the people in the pubs, meet your fellow walkers and get soaked (at least once and try to keep it to only once). Leave a Comment

Awesome little place. Go to a bar, order a Guiness and Irish stew and take in the traditional music. Dingle feels like the real Ireland, and is well worth a visit. Stroll the local countryside, and discover ruined churches and lush green expanses. Leave a Comment Directions: North of Killorglin, West of Tralee, South of Shannon, on the West Coast.

DIngle is what I dreamed of Ireland looking like. Fantasic mountain and sea landscape. Bright green patches of grass, farms, sheep, lakes, gurgling streams and locals who are friendly and enchanting. Pubs with local music, YES the real thing. Spontaneous fiddle playing and singing in the pubs. The town is situated on Dingle Bay. Fishing boats are bobbing in the harbour. Safe streets easy to walk and browse the shops and plenty of restaurants. If I had it to do over again I would have stayed an entire week just in Dingle. Get into your rental car and explore the tiny country roads. Don't be afraid to get lost because the area is quite small. There are great Bed and Breakfast, Inns on the outskirts of town to stay with the best FULL Irish breakfast anywhere. Directions: North of Killorglin, West of Tralee, South of Shannon, on the West Coast.

North of the famous Ring of Kerry lies a less touristic, but (maybe) even more beautiful peninsula. Dingle is very rural, with rugged mountain passes (like Connor pass) and rough costal cliffs. It's an gaeltacht area (means that Gaelic is a living language there), but you'll get around with standard English -if you learn to undrestand that hell of an Irish accent! :) Mt. Brandon (near cloghane) is (i think?) Ireland's highest mountain, and worth a walk. In good weather you'll have a good lookout. Leave a Comment
