We arrived in Kinsale on a rainy day but in spite of grey skies and drizzle the town bewitched us with its charm. Its brightly painted houses, art galleries, picturesque harbour and a maze of narrow streets make it one of the most beautiful Irish towns. It is called the Gourmet Capital of Ireland boasting numerous restaurants and bars which specialise in fresh seafood. It's a pity we couldn't check on it ourselves, mainly due to the lack of time but also because we had to mind our budget. We did make a break for a coffee though, and sat in one of a few nice cafes in the market square.
Another attraction of Kinsale that we missed is Charles's Fort - a fortification coming from 1677 which guarded the entrance to Kinsale Harbour. We had to limit ourselves to a walk in the town getting as far as the Desmond Castle which houses the Museum of Wine. We also saw St. Multose's church - one of the oldest Protestant churches in Ireland.
Although a bit too short, our visit to Kinsale was very nice, so I would recommend this little town to anyone travelling through this part of Ireland. To learn more, why don't you visit a very informative page created here on VT by Ekaterinburg?

Kinsale is on the south coast, very pretty with lots of small art shops & unusual gift shops featuring local craft items many made from shells. The town has a lovely harbour area featuring lots of expensive yachts.

Charles Fort is a fascinating star-shaped fort from the 17th century.
Inside the fort there are the remains of a small village.
The walk from Kinsale to Charles Fort will take you about an hour and will lead you along the beautiful bay.

I loved this town for many reasons: Its tremendous history; the colours of all streets and for being a little town/city but with a special charme that made me somehow recall my mediterranian home (Palamós).
What I absolutely recommend you is to take a guided tour. Only that way you realize the gorgeous background of the city and you will be shown spotts where you would never probably get on your own and that are, indeed, worth to be seen.

People flock to this quaint city for the fame and expensive restaurant. Well we went here because we have some time to kill and heard the area is beautiful.
I recommend Scilly walk, a 30 min walk along the coastal part of the city it starts from the end of Pearse St then end in Charle's Fort.

Kinsale was a great excursion from Cork. It took us about an hour by bus to get there. If you want to go to the beach from town get a cab. We walked forever. The water is cold too. Don't let them fool you if you are used to nice warm Florida beaches. In August it was about 50 degrees F. But it has a beautiful view and rocks to climb around on. The town is cute and colorful with lots of little shops and pubs.

Kinsale has the best cuisine in Ireland. It is becoming known for its great food and international cuisine. It is also a very beautiful sea side area. I would go.
