Howth

by MalenaN

Howth is a pretty fishing and yachting port, about 15 km north-east of Dublin city centre. The little town lies on the north side of Howth Head, with steep winding streets going uphill from the harbour. It is a popular daytrip from Dublin as it is a nice place to walk around in. You can walk around in the town and harbour and you can choose to make longer walks on paths around Howth Head.Howth is a fishing centre so you will find fresh local catches on the menus in the restaurants and cafes.I used DART when going to Howth.DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transport) is the train going through Dublin to the villages and towns (suburbs) north and south of Dublin. It is very convenient to use if your doing a daytrip to visit the places along the coast. Tickets can be bought from machines or the booking-office . At Connolly Station the line for buying the ticket was very long early in the morning, but...

Clogher Beach

by florry

My favorite beach is Clogher Beach. You got to be lucky to go there on the right day the right time to see a massive swell. The Power of the sea is amazing, birds flying between the waves. Sometimes its so windy you cant get out the car.But even on calm days its a nice beach just to sunbathe.

Irish itinerary

by TheAndos

Having just done a whirlwind tour of Ireland, I have to add my bit! People who live in any country will always say you are going too fast and not staying long enough to enjoy it completely but travellers have to fit in as much as they can during a trip. There are so many places in the world we never have time to go back! Also in Australia (and probably the US) we are used to travelling long distances. We visited at the end of May, and landed in Dublin at 4pm. So we drove straight to Kilkenny the first evening, got there 6.30pm. Spent the evening and next morning looking round then went on to Cork for night 2. No problems so far - great roads and freeway. Stopped at Cashel and Cahir. By the way, have small change for the freeway, some of them are tolls.Day three we headed off to Kenmare and the Ring of Kerry. Beautiful. We had aimed to stop and walk but it was windy and cold so we just...

Discover Killarney, Co Kerry, Ireland

by candleglow8

Yes there are better places in Ireland to visit. I highly recommend "Killarney" in the south of Ireland. You can take a train from Huston Station, Dublin. Its a three and a half hour travel. The scenery is beautiful. There is also, Muckross House, which is more of a mansion than a house. It dates back to the 18th century and is open to the public. Also the gardens and acres of land of the house is georgous. Plus there are horses and carriages you can tour around in. The town its self is well worth a look. plenty of modern and old restaurants and nite life is good. The towns people are very friendly. There is also a public tourist office which will give you lots more information and you can book a trip around the ring of kerry or dingle peninsula. View historical buildings and places of importance to Killarney. The vast lake holds a secret or two. Go out on the boat and hear the stories....

Rock of Cashel

by amandajayne81

This was one of the main places I was keen to see as soon as I started planning my trip. Unfortunately the weather was rainy and windy so we probably didn't get as much out of our visit as we could have. We didn't time it very well and missed out on joined a guided tour. We did however see the well put together audio visual feature which was very interesting. Just amazing to be surrounded by so much history and the view itself from on top of the hill is stunning. Worth the admission.Admision Fees: . Adult - €5.30;.. Senior Citizen - €3.70; .. Student (valid I.D.) - €2.10; .. Family - €11.50

Cashel Heritage Centre

by amandajayne81

In the centre of town was a small museum?? with a small gift shop set up to give a bit of background information on the Rock of Cashel and the Cashel town in general. It was free and we looked through it in about 20 mins. The Charters of Cashel was here. Probably had it not been such a cold, wet day this indoor attraction may not have appealed so much. From the website listed below...CASHEL HERITAGE CENTREThe award winning Heritage Centre is located on Main Street in Cashel. A large scale model of Cashel in the 1640's highlights the lesser known treasures of the town. Audio commentary is in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Irish and English. The Charters of Cashel, King Charles II 1663 and James II 1687 are on permanent display. Free Admission. Opening Hours: March - October: 7 days 9.30am - 5.30pmNovember - February 5 days 9.30am - 5.30pm

Cahir Town

by amandajayne81

We were to early to arrive at our B and B after checking out the Rock of Cashel so decided to drive the hour or so to Cahir. We didn't pay to go into the Cahir Castle (we had by now a bit of Castle overload) but had a good look around it, walked over the river near the castle, looked at the many shops and walked along several of the walks. Quite a bit to do at this smallish but busy little town. Worth a visit and close to lots of attractions.

Dublin - Older memorial Statues

by amandajayne81

More than the Spire of Dublin I enjoyed the older statues and memorials. This one I have pictured is at the other end of O'Connell St and had many interest things written around it including (from memory) the list of all the counties. A little bit of peace and interest in a busy main street.

Tip Photo
Dublin - Garden of Remembrance

by amandajayne81

Very close to our hotel were the Gardens of Remembrance (which is where the Children of Lir statue and the cross shaped pond I have shown in other tips were). This little monument showing the breaking of chains was on the outside of the Gardens.
