Nothing quite lifts a grey gloomy day more than a stroll down one of the Islands many beaches. Me and the girls had a great morning yesterday on Douglas beach.

It's free, it's fun and it's good for you!!!!! :-)

Peel Castle

The best thing about this castle is the walk around the outside of it. The castle is set on a beautiful spot beside Peel Harbour and surrounded by some magnificent coastal views.

This is proving to be a hot-spot for Basking-Shark sightings at the moment with regular viewings of 2 - 3 sharks on any one day. There are always plenty of seals in the area doing a spot of "people watching" or sunbathing on the rocks round the back of the castle.

The walk around the inside of the castle isn't really worth the money (around £4.80 for adults) and you will appreciate the beauty of the Castle and it's surroundings more from the outside - plus this is free so that makes it even better!! There is a burger van on the harbour next to the castle where you get something to eat and a brew.

Peel is a favourite place for people to head at the weekends so it can get pretty busy. The main attraction of Peel is the walks around the Castle and over the headland and also for the ice-cream shop on the promenade (Davidson's Ice-cream - Gorgeous!!!!). The beach is also a nice spot for families when the sun finally comes out. The sunset in Peel is also stunning.

I love it here!! It is one of the most dramatic pieces of coastline on the island.

Scarlett is an area of extinct volcano in the South of the Island and is well worth a visit just for the "wow" factor. As with many other areas of natural beauty on the Island this is generally very quiet and you quite often find yourself alone here.

There are also numerous rock-pools here which the kids love to fish in with their nets. Emma visited here with school one day and also found a couple of fossils!

There is a visitor centre which is open Mon - Sat from 2.00pm till 5.00pm from May to September. Only very small but provides some interesting information on the landscape and the wildlife which can be spotted.

The ancient capital of Castletown is nearby which is also well worth a visit.

Bradda Head

We're heading all the way up there!!

The walk up to Bradda Head is lovely!! Most of the way is a reasonably gentle walk - it just gets a bit steep towards the top but it's worth it when you get there. This is a walk we have done many times because it's easy for the kids and it's also very easy to get to.

The view is amazing - sadly the photo's don't do it any justice (poor light, dodgy flash, any other excuse I can think of!). When you reach the top you can look back over Port Erin which is a beautiful little seaside town - and home to one of the best beaches on the Island.

The children really enjoyed climbing to the top of the tower even though the staircase is very very dark. It can also get very windy when you reach Bradda Head which can be amusing - just don't stand too close to the edge, it's a long way down!!

At a gentle pace it takes around 20 mins to reach the top.

Fun with the kids in Ramsey

Play at the park.

There is a great park in Ramsey. It has a boating lake, crazy golf and all the usual things.

If you are down this way it is perfect for taking the kids and right next to it is Ramsey Promenade so you can take a walk while the kids are playing either on the beach or along the walkway.

There is also a bike track here, not for push bikes, (one with all jumps and things can't remember the name of the bikes you use!)
