The CAMRA good beer guide. Led us to the Albert Hotel, the Rovers Return and Queens hotel in Douglas, and the Creek in Peel. Particularly enjoyed the Queens hotel, good beers and very friendly - visited several times, the quiz on Sunday evenings is challenging!
(Applies to TT, Southern 100, Manx Grand Prix.) You are going to need an FM/AM radio in order to hear the race commentary. There are tannoys at key sites, but around the Island the commentary is broadcast.
For midge repellent, nothing beats Avon Skin-so-Soft moisturiser. Apparently used by US and UK armed forces (although probably in unmarked containers!) and recommended by all from Rough Guide to Lily Savage. (Although much of this may be apocryphal.) True or not, it does work - I'll vouch for that. Gaiters for walking. Even if the weather is fine, knee-high gorse is no fun on unprotected legs
be sure to bring a wind breaker and good hiking boots. our heavy coats were unsuitable as we got very hot walking around all day. a digital or ordinary camera is a must.
