Half way there!

We cycled from Douglas to Peel....from East to West Coast (and back)...oh my aching butt!!! It was great craic. Now, you could cheat and get the bus from Douglas to Peel but why would you want to do that? ;)

It is very doable even if you're not that athletic. Just take your time.

It's only 11 miles between the two towns, but it always seems longer on the way there.

Equipment: We hired 2 bikes for £10 ea for the day from Eurocycles in Victoria St, Douglas. I thought that was pretty good value.

The people on the Isle of Man seem to be very athletic, there are so many sport events. When I was there the Half/Full Marathon was being held in the north of the island and I took part. I ran the half-marathon and finished full of admiration for those who did the whole round once again.
This event is organised by the Isle of Man Veteran Athletes Club. Sign-up fee was £ 18. The organisation was excellent, from a free shuttle bus between Douglas and Ramsey, to organizing the course and to the very good free buffet afterwards.
The course went from Ramsey up north to Bride and through Andreas Village back to Ramsey, a little more than 13 miles. Those who ran the full marathon had to do it twice. Sometimes it was quite hilly, not all of the north is flat.
There was some rain and the wind was pretty strong, but alltogether we were lucky with the weather.

It was a wonderful event, very, very well organized!

Equipment: Running shoes, which shouldn't be completely new ,of course, but any other equipment is not necessary. That's what I like about running, once you have the shoes you can start. All other equipment is nice, like pulse watches, special clothing etc, but not absolutely necessary.
