    chapel with a view

Another favourite viewpoint was from the lofty sanctuary of the Madonna at the foot of Monte Tranquillo - a hike we did from Pescasseroli with our faithful friendly dog (see local customs tip!) The local women broght the stons up here to build this sanctuary as thanks to the Madonna for protecting their village during the war. During the war a gun had been placed up here for attacks and if the villages made trouble then the gun would have been turned on them.

This is a beautiful spot - a perfect place for lunch. We did not meet another soul during the hike until we reached here when we met a couple on their honeymoon - they probably didn't want to see us. it was quite a hike up to the sanctuary, especially for the last 30 mins - the honeymooners had arrived by car, perhaps saving their energy for other activities ;-)

    new born lambs

We did not see much wildlife during our hikes ..but we did come across these sheep with their new born lambs, must be just a few days old as they still had wrinkly skin, so cute!
Guess they wouldn't want to see wolves!

    ...and horses too

    horses at rest

if you don;t fancy hiking then horse riding trails are also available in this area. They too make the most of the water from the fountains. Just in case you were wondering we took water from the top end where it came out of the spount and not where the dogs and horses drank from!

    Comisciara scenery

One of my favouritre areas for the views was in the Comisciara. The mountains almost looked like the Dolomites with their jagged peaks and the surrounding area also reminded me very much of our time in Slovenia in Dovje with VT member Markoos.

A little village in the Parco Nazionale d

This photo was taken in a little village in the Parco Nazionale d' Abruzzo, in the middle of Italy. It's a typical rural scene in my opinion. Vibrant colours on the doors of this little shop, with peppers and garlic hanging outside. It's so picturesque! I just love to wander around in these little villages and take in the atmosphere.

    ruins and views

The evocative ruins of the Castel Mancino above the town of Pescasseroli can be reached in about 40 mins from the centre and you get a wonderful view of the Abruzzo NP.

In this section I'd just like to share some views that can be had when you get into the nature and do some hikes in the area.
First off this is a view as we rambled down the Val Fondillo Valley.
