The town center of Maratea should just be a side trip. Go to the coast because that is where the real holiday is. Though the beach is not pearly white (oh, not at all!) it's the best that you can get in this town.

One thing that is nice though is the panorama that you can have when you are in the beach and when you look at background, you would be surrounded by the scenic mountains. It is very lovely to lay down in the beach with the sun shining (or) ready to set (the best is from 5-7pm) towards the horizon, and when you look at your back, the steady ranges of the mountain, makes you feel communing with nature.

Santa Maria Chapel

Two hundred meters below the Pianeta Maratea Residence, there is a small whitewashed chapel. To visit it, walk down the private road linking the resort with the beach area. Two – three minutes later you will see the chapel on your right. Wide terrace with clear footpath leads to it. The 19 century chapel is small but pretty.
