bikinis everywhere
Calabria in August is extemely hot. The summer heat went up to over 40 degrees celsius one day I was there. Everybody wore bikinis day in and day out from morning till evening after which they'd dress up in their skimpiest best to walk around the many streets or to visit relatives and friends and eat and talk adn party. I was there for about 10 days before heading back to naples and realised that i could have just brought 2 bikinis, a skirt and 2 or 3 tops and sandals and been fine, instead of having to eventually lug a heavy bagful of unworn clothing back to naples. Sunblock is completely essential. Italians like to roast in the sun in summer, with or without sun protection. dangerous and very unadvisable. It's best if the sunblock is waterproof given that you'll probably be sweating it off if it wasn't. humidity levels run high in south italy in summer.
