Positano by Jmill42 You might wonder why everyone says "You HAVE to go to Positano / Amalfi coast", and yet can't exactly give you a true reason. Well, it is because the place has a certain charm that you can't describe. Sure, there are bars and a club or two, but that’s never the reason someone tells you to come here. It’s the mountains melding with the sea. It’s the winding staircases that never end. It’s the restaurants on the water, the local bands serenading you as you eat the fabulous seafood. It’s all of these things plus the thousand other things that you can't possibly describe. You have to see it, feel it for yourself. Leave a Comment

Sandy on the cathedral steps by sandysmith Sitting on the steps of the cathedral was a nostalgic fond memory as I recalled sitting here on these same steps 18 years before as a young bride....ahhh. It also puts the size of the cathedral into perspective. In case you are wondering there are 57 steps up to the cathedral. Today the cathedral is a popular place for wedddings and many brides can be seen posing on the steps in this stunning setting for their wedding pictures....but this photographer still only had eyes for his bride ;-)

narrow streets of amalfi by sandysmith For the most scenic walk in Amalfi, start at Piazza del Duomo and head up Via Genova. This classic stroll will take you through the narrow street of Amalfi with its joined arches overhead to the Valle dei Mulini (the Valley of the public is said to have acquainted Italy with the use of paper). You'll pass by fragrant gardens and scented citrus groves and eventually the remains of the old paper mills

paper museum by sandysmith If the subject of the paper making interests you, you can learn more details about the industry at the Museo della Carta, Via Valle dei Mulini. It's filled with antique presses and yellowing manuscripts from yesterday. There is a small charge to enter - perhaps something for a rainy day.

view of Amalfi by sandysmith Our first view of Amalfi was as we dropped down the hill path from Atrani - its smaller neighbour, also worth a visit. The sunbeds all arranged in typical uniform italain style, the trees on the promenade and the coastline stretching beyond was a colourful sight indeed.

Cathedral of St Andrew by sandysmith The dominating feature of the main square of Amalfi of course is the amazing cathedral, dedicated to Saint Andrew - much more info in the must see section. A visit here is the main attraction of Amalfi. Photographing the cathedral is a bit of an art in itself - guess a wide angle lens would be a good idea!

Piazza in Amalfi by unravelau The scenery is absolutely magnetic. The water is so blue, the sky was too but that could be just the day. I spent most of the day with my mouth open, no not eating although I did have a fabulous lunch at a waterside restaurant in Amalfi itself. I was in awe about everything there.
The town square was pretty exciting. Heaps of activity with street sellers of cards, trinkets and plaques. Just great for present shopping, interesting shops and laneways, nooks and crannies. Leave a Comment

preparing some food and having a picnic on the beach is the best way to enjoy.
There are so many families having fyn there. Swimming, having sunbath, and seeing people having fun. At that moment, it seems that all my worries have flied far away~~~ Leave a Comment

It's a beautiful town, crowded (of course!), but the people are friendly, more so if you speak a little Italian. The Duomo is beautiful!
My best memory is choosing a name plate for our home in the ceramics shop. The proprietor was very nice and promised to mail the plaque when it was finished---which she did. We received it about a month after I returned home. Leave a Comment
