Ceramic Lobster
2 more images

We did a little shopping at Allerè Art shop café - the store that was there- and had the things shipped to my daughter. Things were shipping promptly, but there was a problem with the delivery when they left notes while my daughter was out of town. Then they called me and of course I was several states away. They were going to send the stuff back to Italy.

What to buy: Decorated ceramics, coral jewelry and shells. Also food items and wine. I got some ceramic astrological sign items and also this lobster.

My son-in-law liked the lobster so much that he kept it instead of giving it to the person it was meant for.

Shopping in rain

There are dozens of little shops, tucked away in narrow streets and lanes.
It's best to take your time and see the lot, then come back to the shops you really want to buy from. The prices can vary, as there is plenty of competition.
The shopkeepers are very friendly and helpful and most speak English.

What to buy: Postcards, souvenirs, leather shoes and plenty of clothes.
Don't forget the Limoncello!!

The piaza and surrounding area is filled with souvenir and ceramic shops, art galleries, and restaurants.

What to buy: You can find beautiful ceramics and dishes, hand painted tiles, limoncello and other wines and liquors, beautifully packaged pastas and spices, and tackier souvenir magnets and shotglasses.

If you want to buy limoncello or wines to take home, try the supermarket on the right on your way up the street. They have many items similar to the specialty shops, but at better prices.

What to pay: Many of the stores carry the same items, but not all have the same prices. Shop around if there's something particular you're looking for.

I found these little miniature clay buildings in a shop along the way...and they sit on a window casing in my house. They are a wonderful reminder of our time along the Amalfi coast...with those little colorful buildings clutching the cliff side...tucked into every little crack and ledge. I try to always buy things that I will use or see daily to help me remember those moments of travel.

This is a place you must stop at.. almost literally.. Its on the road to amalfi and there's this really tight turn that you almost have to stop at. At Giona Factory the artists actually make the ceramics items on site. They have the typical items of the area, very well made.. we purchased many items that made it home completely intact.. thanks to how they packaged everything so well.

What to buy: Salt and pepper shakers... lemoncello cups

What to pay: items from 5 euros to 5000 euros

Colorful tiles of Amalfi

Everywhere you go, you will find shops that sell these beautiful colorful ceramics. They come in forms of tiles, water jugs, salt & pepper shakers, fridge magnets, plates and other kinds of decorations or kitchenware.

I bought myself these colorful tiles wherever I go to remind me of the places I've been to in Italy and also some things for the kitchen

What to pay: Depending on where you buy them (touristy area or further away), you can buy some ceramics from 3€ for a fridge magnet to 15€ for a salt & pepper shaker

Lots of little shops in the piazza and laneways.: Shopping in Amalfi's main drag.

shop till you drop

There were many little knick knack shops with all manner of souveniers available for small and large prices. I was particularly attracted to a couple of art displays up the laneway to the left of the piazza (in this picture)........transporting them home would have been a problem though.

What to buy: I would be getting souveniers and bits and pieces unless you could organise shipping for larger things.

Antichi Sapori d'Amalfi: Limoncello

Charming little shop, specialising in that most famous of lemon liquers.

What to buy: Limocello. This is a liquer made from lemon juice, and very little else. Its served after meals in many Italian restaurants in a frosted glass. Surprisingly drinkable, limoncello is also well priced.

What to pay: Pay around 10 Euros for a 750ml bottle.
