See my hotel tip for more on this gorgeous spot. There was a movie made (one of those chick flicks) where the man chases the woman to Italy and catches up to her in this posh hotel on the Amalfi coast. Great shots of the area..."feel good" movie...of course they wind up together in the end. What was the name of that movie? Come on all you movie buffs...surely someone remembers!?
Whatever....I know I'd like to stay for a few days and take a cruise in this wonderful boat (in fact several boats) which are at your disposal as a guest of the hotel. MMMMMmmmmm
UPDATE FROM MY READERS The movie was "Only You" with Marissa Tomei and Robert Downey, jr. It was made in Positano...a tiny village along the way on the coast.

Suddenly you turn to see a cave-like orifice with the front of a house protruding out of the rocks. They are truly cave dwellers here....with most of the house being inside the mountain while only the front is visible. We saw lots of statues and religious shrines which I wish we could have investigated more closely. The density is such and you are moving along through it so quickly that it's hard to take it all in fast enough. Walking the road would be the only way to really see it, but I'd be scared to death to walk a road like that. Imagine raising a family in one of those houses...you would have to keep your kids on a leash!! Yikes!

See my Ravello tips too - Ravello is the stunning viewpoint spot up in the hills above Amalfi and Atrani - the place with the beautiful photos looking down over the Amalfi coast.

Buses leave about half hourly from the main bus area in the front of the shops down at the Amalfi waterside for the 6 kilometre steep winding uphill road trip which takes about 20 to 30 minutes up to Ravello.
That means buying a 'one hour' ticket which is only about 1 euro 50.

They are just as frequent coming back but as recommended in one of my Ravello tips walking back down is an enjoyable thing to do - its downhill all the way and interesting to see the local life around the area along the way - lemons were being harvested when I was there.

Located only five minutes by foot from Amalfi (really!), Atrani considers itself to be an entirely different town. To reach Atrani, head to the port and follow the main road to the left.

There isn't much to see in Atrani: a small, dirty beach, an antique clock and a small piazza with children playing football day after day. There are some rooms available for rent here and a few restaurants and bars... and relatively no tourists! There is an authentic small-town feeling here, and it's worth a visit from Amalfi.

Beautiful 13 th century Chiostro del Paradiso - I think its design and decoration is stunningly beautiful! - next to the also beautiful 9-10th century Duomo -
the church with cloisters with a Saracenic appearance is apparently Lombard-Norman style.

Unfortunately i didnt go in - i rushed off for the bus up to Ravello and then ran out of the time coming back as i spent too much up in the hills above and seeing beautiful Atrani around the next bay!
But there are so many beautiful sights that make this area so rather lovely to see and spend some time in!

Amalfi is not only beautiful pictured beside the sea or with its beautiful skyline with the mountains as a picturesque backdrop - walk around the streets of the town centre and you will see an interesting town centre - clean streets, beautifully kept buildings and fountains, where the locals seem happy to congregate and sit for coffee -

not to mention one of the most beautiful churches you may ever see!!

A musical and magical garden located on the small escarpment of Mount Lattari. One of the most attractive destinations on the Divine coast overlooking the coast south towards the Gulf of Salerno and directly below is the town of Amalfi. The place is most loved from writers, artists, travellers and musicians since many centuries ago until the present times. Every Spring, a Wagnerian Festival is held here at sunset commemorating the musician for his love of this place.

Supposedly a beautiful place to get married, the Duomo of Amalfi, or St Andrews Cathedral, is the heart of the city of Amalfi. IT casts an imposing shadow over the piazza in front of it, and has wonderful architectural features. The doors are massive and made out of bronze. They were constructed in Constantinople, apparently. The steps are steep, but it is worth getting a picture on them!

Mountains standing proud above rocky cliffs and an azure sea. Lemon trees bursting with vivid scent and color. Patchwork patterns of ancient olive groves and vineyards clinging to the hillside. Is there a better way to define the elegant Italian paradise of the Amalfi Coast?

The town is situated amoung the soft green hills and valleys, opposite the azure sea and under a beautiful blue sky. In this village the air is heavy with the scent of roses and carnations. As you walk along the narrow, paved streets, the pink flowers of the oleanders hang over crumbling stone walls - and the effect is one of mellow beauty.

At the outset of Amalfi, you can see S.franceso tower and the Convento dei Padri Minori Conventuali whose building is traditionally attribuited to S.francesco. After Monastery's suppression in 1087, you can see only the cloister that presents a lot of ogive archs. A very simple cornice completes the cloister: This view from the harbour is lovely - seeing the buildings with their pastel colours and muti-layered effect.
