One of the pleasures of travelling is shopping! I enjoy collecting souvenirs from places I've visited, and I especially enjoyed shopping in Amalfi and along its coast. Amalfi is known to be the centre for ceramic production. I cannot help but be drawn to the bright colorful ceramics being sold all over the Amalfi Coast and town. I especially liked the bright lemon motifs on the ceramics. There were so many I wanted to buy but I had to limit my purchases to small and easily transportable items. I also like the lemon motifs on table cloths and tea towels. These are great souvenirs to bring home; practical and light!

capri by clairegeordio You can get to Capri from the marina in Amalfi. The ferry also stops off at Positano. In the centre of Capri is Piazza Umberto, a small enclosed square resembling a courtyard. An afternoon can be spent there wandering around narrow lanes with tiny houses and villas. Leave a Comment

You should try a small glass of chilled Limoncello after your meals, and if you like it, you should buy a bottle to bring it home. Limoncello is a lemon liqueur produced in the south of Italy, mainly in the region around the Gulf of Naples and the coast of Amalfi. It is made from lemon rinds, alcohol, water, and sugar. It is bright yellow in color, sweet and lemony. Limoncello is easy and inexpensive to produce and little time to mature. It is traditional for the Italians to serve Limoncello chilled as an after-dinner digestivo. Along the Amalfi coast, it is usually served in small ceramic glasses, as the Amalfi coast is a centre of both ceramic and limoncello production. This tradition has carried into other parts of Italy.

Ravello by clairegeordio Ravello is perched on a 350ft high cliff overlooking the towns of Amalfi, Maiori and Minori. It is pleasant to walk along the "terrace of infinity" of Villa Cimbrone, where you can get beautiful views for miles. Leave a Comment Directions: Turn off about 2km after Amalfi

The Emerald Grotto is a cave 5 km west of the town of Amalfi, about a 10 minute boat ride. It was discovered by a fisherman in 1932. The way the light reflects off of the water gives it its name. You buy tickets for the boat ride at a ticket booth on the shore, just west of the roundabout for 10 Euros each and then go to the main dock, where you’ll take your receipt to the ticket booth. The ride is picturesque, offering a nice view of the coastal towns along the way. Upon arrival at the grotto, you have to pay another 5 Euros per person to go inside the cave. Once you get into the cave, you go into a small boat where a tour guide rows you around the grotto, explaining the history of the grotto in Italian and English. It only takes about 5 minutes to go around the whole thing. Hop back on the main boat and return to Amalfi. The whole thing took about 30 minutes. Because of the name, we expected the grotto to be more spectacular than it was. The “emerald” part of the grotto is only about 1/3 of the whole thing. The rest of the water looks dark and you can barely see down. The man rowing the boat was somewhat cheesy and overly solicited tips. The grotto was nice to see, but it was overpriced and overrated. There are lots of nice things to do on the Amalfi Coast, so I wouldn’t put this at the top of my priority list.

Facade by Jetgirly The monumental Cathedral of Amalfi dates back to the 13th century and combines Moorish and Norman architecture. Today, it is open for religious ceremonies, while visits cost about EUR 3 with an informative pamphlet. Depending on your level of interest the visit can take from fifteen minutes to more than an hour, but I would recommend it. Enjoy the views! by sikorka According to me, there is no better thing to do than lying on the beach, sunbathing, swimming... Just take your time, watch people around and do a walk in the evening. This is the right place for things like that and even though you are "an always busy" type you should enjoy a weekend like that form time to time. Address: Marina del Cantone beach

A Quiet Street in Ravello by Jetgirly Known as the City of Music, Ravello is a thirty-minute bus ride from Amalfi. Perched high upon a cliff, the town offers excellent views of the sea and countryside, as well as concerts and musical events year-round. High-flying travelers may wish to stay in one of Ravello's many five-star hotels, avoiding the touristic hustle and bustle of Amalfi. Leave a Comment

Amalfi is a very small, quiet town, so there are not a lot of attractions. If you just feel like relaxing and lounging around, head down to the beach. There is a public beach that is free and a few private beaches that you have to pay to use. At the public beach, you can rent a sun bed and umbrella, but you can also just lay out a towel and not be charged. The beach itself is somewhat rocky, so bring flip flops or sandals. The water is fairly warm in the summer and clear. Bring goggles is you want to see what’s swimming below the surface, and also to protect your eyes from the stinging salt water. Be aware that the water gets fairly deep right away. Directions: Can't miss it! :)

In the evening, after you're done with all your coffee-drinking, pasta-eating, sight-seeing, and souvenir-shopping, why don't you go to the water front area (where the busses are parked) and take a walk along the walkway there. You can get to enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets in Italy. As the sun began to set over the horizon, it will cast its last rays of rich reds-orange-yellow lights over the sky, water, hills and steep cliffs. I managed to snap this sunset picture for my photo album. However, this picture does not do justice to the real thing in Amalfi. The scenes around me was so achingly beautiful; As I stood watching the sun set, the sunrays casted soft yellow-orange hues over the white houses on the cliffs.
