After the tour of the Blue Grotto andthe funicular up the hill, our group of fellow travellers numbered 6 and we needed the "facilities". These were not easy to find in Capri till we saw a sign outside a mediocre looking restaurant way down a side street of the main piazza - public rest rooms. Two of us noted that the dining room way in the back was quite pleasant so we stayed for lunch. Smart move. The owner-manager joined us for a while, the food was great, the service was friendly, the wine list was impressive, and we had a really nice time. It was only when we got back to our hotel and looked in the Frommer's to see where we might have eaten that we found that casaNova was the ONLY non-hotel restaurant on Capri to get a red star from that tourist book. Two points for Frommer's. We highly recommend this place which provides on the back of the business card a map (image 2).
salads, pizza, pasta - for what had become a group of 6, all excellent. Entrees were also available but we stayed with the basics. Capri may be overrun with tourists, but this was a real kitchen preparing real food. by Polly74 Nice Restaurant with big terrace and a marvellous view.
One of the most appreciated first courses is Capri style ravioli: a thin sheet of homemade pasta that encloses a caciotta cheese, parmesan and marjoram filling, served in a tomato and fresh basil sauce. I warmly recommend trying the traditional caprese cake, made from chocolate and almonds. This restaurant is in the main square in Anacapri. If you stand facing the designer shops with the chairlift on your right, there is a restaurant on your left. I don't recall seeing any name on it, but it served the best pizza I ate in Italy - and I ate a lot! Leave a Comment

Capri's famed Piazetta by Krystynn Have a cuppa coffee or a bite to eat here at Capri's famed PIAZZETTA, a charming square with al fresco dining. Around the area, you can also shop for the necessary souvenirs or pop into some of their branded boutiques, amongst them - the Salvatore Ferragamo boutique. Whatever it is, the prices of Italian-made goods here in Italy (Capri included) is MUCH cheaper compared to any other countries. So, go ahead and buy your favorite leather bag, shoes or belt! Ristorante Aurora, Capri, Italy by goodfish Ristorante Aurora is the oldest restaurant on the island and has been turning out fabulous food for over 100 years. Known for their pizza, we chose this for our first night's dinner as I'd read so many good recommendations - both for quality and price. Bedraggled after a long day and having the (unexpected) bonus of a great hotel room overlooking the water, we decided to skip the formalities of a late dinner and ordered our pizza to go. While Jerry waited for our pie, I walked down the street to the nearest enoteca for a few bottles of cold beer and we had an outstanding meal for under 20 euro - a bargain for Capri. Without table-service costs, I figured we saved over 10 euro on the meal and the brews by picnicking on hotel room floor. At sunset. Overlooking the sea. And the pizza was excellent - a thin-crusted, herb and fresh mozzarella-topped marvel. It doesn't get much better than that! Those of you who prefer a table, Aurora has both inside and outside dining and the menu includes fresh seafood and pastas as well as pizza. They also have over 300 kinds of wine. It's a "see and be seen" kinda place and you just might run into someone famous so wear something nice and comb your hair. And make a reservation if there during peak season - it's a busy place. If going the take-out route, be aware that, as is customary in Italy, your pie will not be pre-sliced. Have a knife handy or just tear off pieces with your fingers.
Pizza! Price below reflects our take-out meal of one pizza. A sit-down meal will be more. Leave a Comment

This tavern/cellar (Buca) of Bacchus, the god of wine (Bacco) was built upon ancient Greek walls and is one of the best values on the island. Its wood-fired pizzas, hearty pastas, amazingly fresh seafood and local specialties have delighted hungry travelers for over 30 years. We'd come across a lot of recommendations for this little trattoria and weren't disappointed - great food, nice wines, friendly service, no "attitude" and a bill under 50 euro (2007). Granted, we didn't have more than an appetizer, and a pasta dish apiece - with several glasses of wine - but by Capri standards, that's a deal. Because it's known for its value, Buca di Bacco is also very busy so make a reservation or do like we did and go very early. After a long day of exploring, we were starving - and in very casual dress - but they cheerfully took us in and took very good care of us. Nice people - good place!!! I'm not attaching PP price as the exchange rate is all over the place.
Their gnocchi was melt-in-your-mouth fabulous. Jerry had a very yummy pasta with fresh seafood. A very nice outdoor restaurant located on the way to Villa Lysis (or Villa Jovis), signs on the streets will help you find the way. Nice view on the sea. Located in a beautiful lemon garden. I had Ravioli Caprese which were very delicious. I do not exactly remember the price, about 10 €.

Capri can be a pricey place to fill one's tummy but enterprising travelers on a budget can make fabulous meals for less if willing to picnic. Capri and Anacapri towns have yummy shops for everything from wine to artisan breads, from meats to cheeses and amazing sweets. Include a corkscrew, knife, a couple of forks (in your checked baggage!) and few plastic cups when you pack for your trip and you can feast on your hotel balcony or pick an al fresco spot with a memorable view. As Italian markets often specialize in one area (such a vegetables and fruits or bread) you will probably have to hit a couple to put together your picnic but that's part of the fun. Some of the markets are willing to even put a sandwich together for you if requested. One caution: if choosing to dine outside, be a little cautious about your choice of spot - Italians can be sensitive to noshing in public and some cities can even fine you for chewing away at, or on, historic sites.
