The hydrofoil to Capri leaves the port in Sorrento roughly every half hour, takes about 25-30 minutes and costs about 20 euros return. While you're waiting to board, you can walk around the small marina or sit in the small park area by the ticket offices.
When I travelled back to Sorrento it seemed a bit confusing as I waited under the canopy to get out of the sun but when it was time to embark, the queue didn't move that much. Instead, other people beside the canopy (in the sun) got onboard and I didn't. If you definitely want to get onboard then don't wait under the canopy if you can help it.

Capri runs good bus links between:
Capri - Anacapri - Capri
Capri - Marina Grande - Capri
Capri - Damecuta - Capri
Marina Grande - Anacapri - Marina Grande
Marina Piccola - Anacapri - Marina Piccola.
Anacapri - Grotta Azzurra - Anacapri
Anacapri - Faro Punta Carena - Anacapri
A one way ticket costs € 1,30, a 60 min ticket costs € 2,10 and an all day unlimited ticket costs € 6,70. Hold on tight as the roads are very narrow and twisty. The main bus station in Capri town is just a couple minutes walk down Via Roma from Piazza Umberto.

One of the quickest and easiest way to get from the Marina Grande (where the hydrofoils and ferries arrive) and Capri town is by funicolare, a cable railway. The ride takes about 3 minutes and costs 1,30 EU.

The hydrofoil from Naples takes only 45 minutes. This is much faster than the ferry which can take 80 minutes and is much rougher. The hydrofoil only costs around 11 Euro.
Transportation from Naples is available either at the port of Mergellina or Molo Beverello; however, it is much more convenient to depart from Molo Beverello because of the greater frequency of departures and larger selection of ferries and hydrofoils.
There are several companies that run trips to and from the island so check with them for a schedule.

At your arrival at the Port of Capri (Marina Grande), leave your luggage to the porters who will send it to the hotel. It will cost you around 6 euro to have them bring your luggage and they just add it to your hotel bill. This leaves you the freedom to come up to the center of town by cable car or taxi.

HOW TO GET TO CAPRI.
A ferry or a hydrofoil takes you from NAPLES or SORRENTO. In Naples the best point of departure is MOLO BEVERELLO. From Naples the ferry takes 80 minutes and costs about £3. The hydrofoil takes 40 minutes and costs about £6. From Sorrento the ferry takes about 40 minutes and costs just under £3, while the hydrofoil takes 20 minutes and costs about £4.

Capri is sooooooo beautiful, everyone who goes to Italy must go there. Naples is a 2 hour train journey from Rome and then from the station we took Tram #1 to the port, and saw the beautiful boats for Capri, Ischia, Sardinia. We took a Caremar ferry which was around 10 Euros for a round trip per person. The ferry ride was awesome with the shady mountains/hills of Capri and Ischia in the distance.
