Favorite thing: Forio is a large town situated along the western coast of the island. It has a long main street lined with shops, some cafes and restaurants. The main sights of Forio are “il Torrione” (an ancient tower) and the curch of Soccorso.

    Ischia.

Favorite thing: Ischia is the main town on the island.

It is divided in two areas; Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte. Ischia Porto is the area where you find lots of shops, restaurants and the harbour (hence the name; porto. It means harbour). Ischia Ponte is the old core of this town.

You should go to Ischia Ponte in order to visit the Aragonese Castle. Ischia Ponte is not my favourite town on the island. It is not ugly anyway.

    Drink some healing water.

by Maurizioago Updated Sep 19, 2013

Favorite thing: There are several water springs on this island. One of these is the Olmitello Spring. It is located some meters far from the Maronti beach. The healing qualities of this water are known since the ancient times. The more important studies about them were made by prof. Giulio Gasolino in 1588. He wrote about the healing properties of this water which is said it should be good for the stomach, eyes, fever, arthritis and for other diseases.

    Sant' Angelo.

    Shop built inside a rock.

Favorite thing: Sant' Angelo is a nice village located on the southern coast of Ischia. It was built partly on a hill; so if you like to explore it properly you should climb several steps.

This village has some beaches, various shops, restaurants and cafes.

One of the good reason to visit Sant' Angelo is to have a good ice cream at the pasticceria (confectionery) Dolce è La Vita (see restaurant tip).

    S. Angelo

Favorite thing: This Borough spreads from the sea to the top of Mount Epomeo, a height of 789 meters. It has several areas, including Sant’Angelo. This pedestrian village is at the top of Sant’Angelo and has typically colorful houses and narrow streets reaching out over the sea.

    Barano

    by Polly74 Written Dec 9, 2004

Favorite thing: Barano is in the south-west of the island and includes many villages that have a strong, independent cultural identity, such as, for example, Buonopane and Piedimonte. A traditionally farming community, Barano is known for the fertility of its soil and for the many fumaroles and hot water springs nearby, like the one in the wonderful location of Marina dei Maronti.
If you have a little time available, we recommend you make a trip to visit the village of Buonopane, famous for its bread-making as well as its “Ndrezzata”. The fragrance of the bread can be smelt every morning in the streets and squares.

    View from Ischia Porto

Favorite thing: Ischia is the largest town on the island and is divided into Ischia Ponte, the older part, and Ischia Porto Choose from among the hotels on Ischia that best suit your needs and take at least two days to visit the town, discovering its artistic beauty and walking along the beautiful beaches nearby.
Some of Ischia’s greatest attractions are Castello Aragonese, Torre Guevara and the Sant’Anna cliffs.

    Ischia harbour

Favorite thing: The "Romantica" resort is a hotel on the far side of the island of Ischia that is equipped with an impressive number of outdoor pools that are geothermically heated. While the hotel services, drinks and meals are a little on the pricy side, the welcoming attitude of the staff and their attentive nature make it worthwhile.

The pools and surrounding decks are wonderful if you enjoy the occasional lazy day with a good book.

Fondest memory: Espresso, invented by the French but perfected by the Italians, seated by a sandy peninsula on a warm, summer's afternoon, followed by slow walks along the shoreline, can make you look forward to quiet, family-oriented afternoons.

Favorite thing: If you've ever been to Ischia you know there's a couple options of ways to have fun. Of course the best time to go is summer months of JUNE/ JULY/ AUGUST, but regardless of the solstice, you can enjoy their FAMOUS SPA BATHS YEAR ROUND.
