    mountain biking around sant'angelo

Found an interesting MTB route this time.
To follow this route, take the following directions:-

Cycle down the main Panza- S. Angelo road.
At a certain point, you cross a small bridge and there is a garage on your left.
continue on towards s angelo, trying not to run any tourists over.
You then get to another space and there is a left turn that goes up to the hill to another garage and a sign indicating a church and a belvedere.
Go up the hill and you get to a car park in a small square continue up the narrow road that goes up the hill.
Follow the road upwards constantly ( there is only one way to go up avoiding steps) and after about 5 minutes you get to a church at the top of the hill.

Continue on down the hill and fork right down a steep descent to get to an abandoned looking hotel called volcano plus a way down to the beach.
just before the way down to the beach , turn left up the steep track.
at this point, there is only 1 road so keep going straight.
after going through the cave, you enter a ravene . Turning right brings you to the maronti beach.
Turn left takes to the square in serra fontana.
The hill up to serra fontana takes you 3 km up the steepest hill i have ever seen. Average grade is about 3:1. I never tried riding down it, but it would be terrifying.

    mountain biking on ischia

It's a bit too vertical and rocky for any decent mountain biking however the roads are mountainous so you can have quite a decent ride if you stick to the asphalt.

It is possible to take several of the tracks leading up the volcano from serra fontana and there is a good ridge trail along the top of the volcano's ridge which starts towards panza and goes most of the way down towards monte tripodi which has the antenna on it.

There is a flight of stone steps that goes down to fiaiano.

On the casamicciola side of the island, it is possible to go up a trail called via del cratere but you have to walk 70% of ther time. Via del cratere is a turning off the foria-casamicciola back road (Via Borbonica).

There is another way up the volcano on the casamicciola side which is on the forio - panza road about 5km out of forio on your left which is marked "localita monterone" i seem to recall.

    Scenic view from Serrara Fontana

    by gmg61 Updated Aug 17, 2006

Serrara Fontana is a tiny village on the island of Ischia, just below Mount Epomeo. It's about 500 metres on the sea level and from one of it edges there's a beautiful view on the southern coast of the island, including Capri on your left hand side and sometimes (when the visibility is very good) Ventotene on your right hand side.
When you arrive in the village you'll see a church and a red house: there's a crossroad and on of the roads departing will lead you under an arch and then to a little square. Park there and enjoy the view, then if you're hungry or thirsty look behind you: there's a bar and restaurant called LA FLOREANA. You can get a drink or a pizza enjoying a wonderful view from its terrace

    In the jungle...

I'm not really sure how my friend and I ended up in this park. We were looking for shops and found ourselves in the middle of a park with huge plants and trees. Sorry I don't know the name of it or how we got there...

    Hot sand

I have read about Pollo Fumarole, chicken cooked in the sand in Ischia, and was hoping to find it. They wrap a chicken in foil with salt, pepper, and rosemary, and bury it in the hot sand for an hour and a half. We found the place but the beach was deserted. My curious husband had to test the sand even thought the signs warned it was hot.
On Maronti beach, a very long and beautiful beach in Sant'Angelo although unfortunately there was a lot of trash on the beach.
