Centro Storico as seen from Vomero by toonsarah Luggage with wheels may not be such a great idea here because of all the cobbles – Chris pulled ours valiantly all round the Piazza Garibaldi on our first evening but he had to lift it a lot :(
You’ll want to dress in layers at this time of year. Temperatures ranged from a warm 22 degrees centigrade in the middle of the day, which found us sipping chilled white wine in Sorrento in just shirt-sleeves, to a slightly nippy 8 degrees at night, when I was glad of my thin wool jumper and mid-weight jacket. Take comfortable flat shoes to help you cope with all those cobbles, and an umbrella or waterproof coat – you may not be as lucky with the weather as we were.
You can buy almost anything you need here, and prices are lower than the UK, but obviously you’ll need to bring prescription medicines.
Again, you can buy things quite easily here and prices are reasonable – I needed batteries for my camera and got some in Sorrento for noticeably less than I would normally pay.
With only a few days in which to explore, we found enough information in the Berlitz Pocket Guide to Naples to keep us occupied, and it has the advantage of being, exactly as the name suggests, small enough to slip into a pocket!

My best shot of Naples Castle by unravelau I would travel light here because I allowed myself to be turned around so many times (hence don't forget the map), I ended up travelling in the wrong direction many times getting totally lost and exhausted.
Very comfortable clothing........especially comfortable shoes, because the shopping is absolutely fantastic. So.........you want to have enough energy to find your way back to the station or your accommodation.
Just the usual and the mandatory bottle of water to ward off dehydration.
The best that you have. I don't have a tripod but it could have come in handy..........my best camera is a Canon EOS 300 which I didn't have on this occasion, so these photo's were taken with my $50 camera. Plenty of photo opportunities especially for people and circumstances. I really wish that I had taken more people photo's here.
I always wear a hat with a wide brim and slap on 30 plus............I have very fair skin that is sun damaged now.
Patience, Patience and more patience. Leave a Comment

Waiting by the dressing room in PROMOD by sargentjeff A good day pack will help. Make sure you can lock it, and always be attentive on public transportation, and when walking on crowded streets. Always secure your belongings, and never let your attention wander in crowds. Safety pins are another added security measure you can use for zippers
comfortable shoes, and an umbrella are advisable.
Bring sufficient medications, as it may be tough to find what you need if you don't speak Italian. Also, some of the hand sanitizer may help, as you may not find soap in restrooms
Digital is great, but any will do. A wide angle lens would be wonderful here, as the vistas are worth capturing.
There are beaches nearby, so if you come in the summer don't forget your suit
I left Napoli with a beautiful Italian souvenir. She is the love of my life and definitely has the Italian ability to talk loudly and with her hands. Leave a Comment

Dont bother bringing a handbag. You'll probably end up buying a few of those in Naples. They're beautifully made, gorgeous and can be rather cheap.
I did a stupid thing-I brought my old running shoes, and open-toe heels (3-inch) to Naples in March. No sensible Napolitan female would have been caught dead in either - Firstly, Italians wear really, really nice shoes. Good shoes, well-cut-, well-made, good-looking. Even the schoolkids didnt have scruffy running shoes on. Secondly, March temperatures can dip to 5 degrees in the evening. With strong winds (common in March), it feels a lot colder. By the third day, my toes were ready to drop off. Luckily I purchsed a pair of Italian shoes later, cheaply. Just a note: It was sheer folly (due to jet lag, i'm sure) but I climbed Mount Vesuvius in those heels. It was not too bad going up (those 3-inch spikes really gave me a grip!!!), but going down was excruciating. In all, I took about 4 and a half hours going up to the peak and down again. It would have been more prudent to pack some well-made, thick-soled leather loafers and ankle boots. For March, at least.
Photographic film is more expensive than in Asia, so Asian visitors, pack those reels!
Sunscreen. Sunglasses, real and counterfeit (brand), are sold everywhere in Naples. Leave a Comment

Southern Italy can get very hot in summer. Do take a light jacket for any cool evenings.
Take a supply of useful medicaments with you(insect repellant, sun lotion, antiseptic cream)and stick to bottled water. Leave a Comment

by caprice4u2 Well I took an absurdly small amount of stuff, having been told to come 'as I am'..however, they shops have some lovely things, of course beautiful shoes, clothes, bags, sunglasses... but also some lovely jewellry... I was bought this lovely ring, which I ansolutely treasure
Take the usual swim wear, a swim cap, sunglasses (although this is THE place (Italy that is) to be presented with the most fantastic range of good shades). Also I would advise you you take some nice jeans and good shoes (GOOD SHOES, this is Italy, shoes matter ;-) Trainers and a classy shirt/tops ot three...the Italians look darned stylish in the simplest of attire, try to blend, look chic and understated, eh :-) Leave a Comment
