In the Termopolium of Asellina food was offered in combination with other services, that are clearly explained by
scrawls on the walls...
...I better leave it for your imagination

...I better leave it for your imagination - as the place was closed anyway ;-))
but the great painting on the wall is worth a visit !

Fast-food-bars like this one are seen many in Pompeji: Warm and cold food and drinks were stored in these large holes
inside the bar. A part of them could be heated from underneath and customers might have been asked :
" For eating here or to take away ?? "
Favorite Dish:
They are out of order now, unfortunately

Many people, living in the small houses of town did not have their own oven at home, so a warm meal was only possible
for them in one of these small restaurants .
These restaurants were locked at night by wodden boards.
Favorite Dish:
these small restaurants mostly offered thick soups with beans or lentils...

There are a few restaurants at the site and most are set up for the big tour groups that come by bus from Rome (like we did). The food is not bad but the service was very bad and the food was just so-so as well as a little over priced.
If you can wait to eat, there are a few good local places down the road on the way out of the area that area real good and it will enable you to have a taste of the local cuisine.

Warm cooked meals were stored in a masonry counter at this place. People could buy and eat the food on the spot. About 3 kg of coins, probably the takings of a single day's business, were found at this site.

This snackbar on Via dell'Abbondanza in Pompei has been closed now for 1926 years, but who knows, it might re-open one of these centuries. I heard that the fried octopus was to die for.

There's nothing like fresh-squeezed orange juice for invigoration. It's a good idea to hydrate with delicious OJ before beginning your exploration of Pompei.

There is a nice place right in Pompei where you can find some fast food, caffe, lavatory and a little gift shopp. It's very nice and in the right spot because you will need a rest.
