Eating dinner at Lo Guarracino

Lo Guarracino is a wonderful, unpretentious restaurant tucked away into the mountainside of Positano and overlooking the ocean. It's not as crowded as the restaurants down on the beach, but the views are just as wonderful and the food is even better. This was the best meal we had while in Positano.

Favorite Dish: The wine is served in earthenware carafes. Order lots of it. I had a wonderful spinach and cheese ravioli dish and the bruschetta was very tasty. My friends enjoyed the lasagna and pasta l'arrabiata.

Buca Di Bacco: Buca Di Bacco is a great spot!

Buca di Bacco is located right on the beach in Positano, a very convenient spot for dining during your visit. While it's always crowded due to its location, I found the service to be extremely good and the food quite tasty. They also have a gelato bar if you just want to pop in for sweets.

Favorite Dish: I ordered the catch of the day, a local whitefish. It was roasted whole and then filleted tableside (very impressive to all of us). The fish was delicate and flaky-- really delicious. It was great to eat something so light after all the heavy pasta dishes we'd been having. It was served with roasted potatoes. We also had a good dessert here. It looked like a pie and had custard and fresh berries in it. Yum!

La Zagra: The Lemon Tree Restaurant

lemons come free!

The food looked great here , tasty pizzas and large ice-creams but the service was too slow for us to hang around - we were on a deadline for the boat back. We were glad to sit down after our long hike here in the dust and the heat - indeed I don't think my legs could have gone on much further without some respite. Being lunch time it was busy though so we cleaned our mucky legs from our hike (maybe they didn't want to serve us in our dishelvelled state!) and went to the take away counter for lunch on the go - yet more pizza :-))

What was really intriguing about the restaurant though was the lemon trees growing inside!

Chez Black

The restaurants on the waterfront looked quite sophisticated with tables well set out - like this one, Chez Black. Probably expensive being in a prime location but such a pleasant place to sit ....but we wanted to explore the town in the time we had.

Favorite Dish: Being a fishing town the fish dishes seemed to be a popular choice as well as the customary pizzas and pastas dishes.

Chez Black: Rose Petals

Chez Black is located right on the beach of Positano in the main boardwalk. Trying to get a table on the street can be tricky on weekends or holidays, and the wait may be awhile for any table. But, grab a glass of champagne and take a seat on the boardwalk while you wait.

Once seated, the atmosphere is delightfully hectic. There are so many tables of people speaking so many languages, and the waiters are literally running trying to keep up with orders.

Favorite Dish: The petali di rose con zucchini was absolutely delicious! I've never had pasta like this before (neither the shape nor the sauce) and we ended up buying a couple bags of the "rose petals" to take home.

The calamari is lightly fried and wonderful, but the swordfish wasn't spectacular. Red wine actually compliments Chez Black's dishes quite well. Try the arancini as a starter. These mini-rice balls are a tasty appetizer.

Mountain restaurants give suberb views.

Many eating place on the upper parts of Positano offers free transportation from your accommodation place and back. In these mountain restaurants the meal is generally quite good and chili and seafood savvy Southern Italian kitchens. Only thing to have to remember that once they have got you there on the heights - with magnificient views - they really suggest to you order more and more and sometimes loosening your will with free limon drink, one of the specialties of Sorrento area.

Stay calm, reject offerings and eat and drink only what you need or remember to be aware of the growing bill. Not a ripoff or hoax, but they are quite pro in persuading. Average price for one person 25 to 30 euros without wines.
Superb views

Favorite Dish: Traditional South Italian kitchen

Petit Restaurant Bar Mare: Praiano: MANGIAMO con Mama Cleliya!!

So nice...we had to return again and again!

Trust me.......you can never have a bad meal in any town you visit along the Amalfi Coast. The towns are known for their fresh catch of the day and the pasta dishes are made from the freshest home grown ingredients. However, one very memorable gastronomical experience we encountered there was in the Via Praia area in the town of Praiano. Here the owner and chef, Mama Cleliya, prepared the most delectable dishes!

Our first dinner there, we never used a menu and during our SIX COURSE meal we were being surprised with one mouth-watering dish after another.

"Ohhhh my GAAADDDD" was our reaction each time Mama Cleliya placed down the next dish!

You can get there from Positano via bus or boat. We preferred to cruise in with our boat and have the "valet guys" park it for us!

Favorite Dish: The grilled "gamberi" (prawns) are battered just lightly enough to melt in your mouth....and the "Pasta Fazoul".....molto bene!!!!

"da Giorgio" Cucina Tipica Caprese: "DA GIORGIO" is da Bomb! (Capri)

Dining with our Bostonian friends in Capri

"da Giorgio" ristorante was recommended to us by one of the locals in Capri. We figured this would be the best way to choose one of the dozens of restaurants on the island that wasn't so......"touristy." We were quite pleased with the results and the dishes that were served up there. The fresh sea bass was served whole, but you can have them "filet" it if you don't want to risk swallowing the bones!

The ambience was pretty lively and the service was friendly and entertaining. The one great thing about dining in Italy is that, no matter how crowded the restaurant can get or no matter what time they close.....the wait staff never "rush" you to have you leave your table. You must request "il conto" yourself if you're in a hurry to skee-daddle out of there!

Favorite Dish: I had been long awaiting to sample the "Caprese salad" (fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, and fresh basil) in its origin of Capri. I wasn't disappointed at all with the version that "da Giorgio" served up!
The key ingredient in this dish is the FRESHEST tomatoes.

da Constantino Ristorante/Bar/Pizzeria: The "Old School" Pizzeria!

Warm family atmosphere and delicious cheap eats!

One of the simple things I will miss the most from my trip to Positano is falling asleep and waking up to the aroma of the wood-burning oven that is housed at da Constantino's ristorante across from our villa. Everyday we would pass this establishment and be greeted by the family that owns this local favorite joint. Luigi is the owner and has his whole extended family running the place. The restaurant sits at the top of Via Monterpertuso and showcases the best view of Positano from their dining room. Towards the side of the building is where the famous wood-burning oven is housed and Elia...the pizza chef....is busily twirling his dough and flirting with all the female patrons (while his wife slaves away in the kitchen!) The "Pizza con Funghi" is to die for and Luigi's special "Spaghetti Bolognese" was out of this world, man! We craved this pasta dish every day......and would complement it with a bottle of the vino rosso from Ravello that Luigi sold to us each time!

Favorite Dish: The "Spaghetti Bolognese" was simple yet unique in flavor!

Good price / quality
We ate several times at Da Vincenzo and actually it came to our loyalty restaurant. Da Vincenzo makes traditional South Italian kitchen chili savvy and many portions are based to seafood. The menu it quite huge; we preferred chili foods, like pasta arrabbiata, or clams and spicy tagliatelle. The owner jokes most of the times with customers, and althought the place is quite touristy, you can eat very well and enjoy of the italian atmosphrere. The tables outside are quite romantic in the evening, althought that they are more on the road than pavement. Also outdoor tables are more comportable with the sea breeze than inside, where can be quite hot.

Favorite Dish: South italian chili and seafood pastas
