Throughout Positano you will see artists displaying their watercolor paintings, photographs and sketches of the Positano scenery. Unlike the mass-produced images you'll see being hawked in big cities like Rome, many of the artworks for sale on the street in Positano are original and of good quality.

These paintings make great gifts and mementos of your time in Positano.

The paintings vary in price depending on the artist and the size & complexity of the art. You can find everything from postcard-sized sketches for a couple of euro to much larger watercolor scenes for 10, 15 or 20 euro.

  • Directions: A great place to find paintings is along the bouganvilla walkway in the heart of Positano. Usually, the artists will have all of their paintings spread out on the ground and displayed on the walls of the walkway.

Solimene Ceramica: custom made ceramics at factory prices (3 photos)

so there we were with friends from Erie, Pa, in J Basul Noble, ostensibly the finest restaurant in High Point, NC, and the server is telling us about the great wonderful new dishes. Out came the dishes and we laughed - the same items are in our kitchen cabinets. Solimene ceramics are known world-wide and the factory is open for orders on appointment. Very easy to get to - just drive east from Positano for about an hour on a beautiful trip or take a bus and transfer for Salerno in the town of Amalfi. This is a great combo day with visiting Ravello which is several miles off the main road on the way back. And Ravello should not be missed.

Whimsical custom-made hand-painted ceramic dishes, platters, serving pieces, pitchers. Also vases. Some are one color, some feature the logos of restaurants which have ordered these plates from Tokyo to New York, and others feature leaves flowers and birds. But the classic Solimene ceramics are the animals pictured adjacent in multiple colors. Shipping is a bargain as below. Because these are custom orders, it may take up to four months to arrive.

Depending on what you order, expect to spend 25% OR LESS than New York City prices. Shipping can not exceed a certain level no matter how much you buy, as long as it all goes to one address. We received 6 large crates for 3 families for no more than the cost to ship our own.

I have found it , i have found it! Walking down into positano on the last little strip of shops before getting to the sea front. Safari Shoes. This little shop hand makes sandals for you, in about an hour. The selection he has is wonderful with lots of rhinestones and jewels. Plus he has shoes that will fit even the most difficult (mine) sizes to find...... custom to your feet!

    65 to 170 euro

If its not a clothes shop then its odds on to be a shoe shop in Positano - so if shoes are your thiing then this is the place to shop - and the italians have such chic too.
It seemed that this shop also did shoe repairs while you wait.

This store is brimming with colour. As you pass by the front door you can't help but be drawn in by the absolutely gorgeous tabletops that greet you at the door. They are adorned with lemons and leaves and the most vibrant of mediterranean colours and fruit.
Once you are inside the store is a treasure trove of beautiful and very practical ceramic pieces. I saw platters, and plates, olive oil bottles and the most delicate Capodimonte porcelain. A beautiful mix of high quality artistic ceramic pieces.

Tabletops are the most special item to shop for in Positano and at the maria grazia store...but the least affordable. A more affordable and equally special ceramic piece would have to be one of the many beautiful serving platters. They are not only beautiful to look at, but can be used for serving food. And the designs and colours are abundant. I had trouble deciding between the more traditional design of lemons on a blue background or the more artistic pieces with the grapes and apples. They suggested I could have my own piece custom designed and include my name or something painted on the back to personalise the piece.
I thought that a great idea!! Apparantly they can personalise any piece and have it made and shipped to you. That would make it a truly special reminder of your Positano holiday.
I couldn't wait though and bought a serving platter with the traditional lemons. Afterall, lemons are the 'jewel' of the Amalfi Coast.

When you think of Italy, you can't help but immediately relate it to fabulous shopping and the latest trends. One great thing about staying in Positano is that you DON'T have to worry about "breaking the bank." Positano is known for beaches, boats, and beautiful people.....not necessarily a shopping haven. You have your run o' the mill resort shops all along the steps that lead down to the beach. The usual souvenirs, "Dynasty" - style fashions for the ladies and Bermuda shorts and swimwear for the men. They did have a handful of lovely ceramics that were handmade on-site as well as a few jewels and artwork. Nothing really "stood out" in my opinion, so we were safe in the shopping arena!

If you really want to "lose the Benjamins" then shopping on the Isle of Capri would be your best bet. There you shall have no problem paying 10 Euros for a scotch and soda in the "Piazzetta," and if you're really daring, then dish out 450 Euros for a pair of denim jeans at Cavalli !

For next to nothing, I found more bang for my buck when I saw this precious dog belting out a few octaves at this shop in Amalfi. Where's David Letterman when you need him?

Positano survives on tourist income and it's difficult to find any bargains at all here. Via dei Mulini, which runs from Piazza dei Mulini down to the beach, is the main shopping street, and you'll find the usual tourist shops here.

  • Unlike the typical resort wear that you see all over Positano, this store actually had great women's clothing.

Large selection of limoncello and other lemon products; local herbs, honeys, jams, etc. All reasonably priced and well-wrapped.

A browse through the store is a feast for the senses: lemon marmalade, curd, candied peels, syrup, chocolate, honey, biscuits, soaps, candles, oils, pasta shells, body creams and liqueurs cram the shelves.

You must try the chocolates made with lemon or lime. I have never tasted anything like it.
