Along the Sentiero Degli Dei pathwway to Positano way we passed some unusual rock formations - almost a western looking scene I thought. At times the path was rather overgrown - vegeation grows quick in the warm weather - but we never felt in danger of not seeing the path clearly enough and there was no risk of falling off the cliff face.

The trail goes along a narrow rocky path through Mediterranean scrub and oak woods, vineyards and chestnut woods to Colle la Serra (575 m). The more rugged scenery of the Vallone di Grarelle starts here with many caves and deep coves. Continues on to a suburb of Positano, Nocelle, a very panoramic area. A walk along the village leads to the old footpath which leads to Montepertuso (365m) crossing through the Vallone Porto, a deep gorge with striking limestone walls. From here take the old steps - there are many of them!! down and down through olive groves and vineyards to the centre and beach of Positano.

Many trails are available in this area of the Amalfi coast. The "Sentiero Degli Dei" or the "Pathway of the Gods", is a famous and stunning walk with panoramic views. Past brigands’ treasure caves, along a mule track looking down on terraces of lemon trees. The old footpath, generally in good condition, is a moderate 3-4hour walk from Agerola to Positano - Footpath 27 CAI - signposted at the beginning and every so often.

The actual footpath starts at Bomerano just on the suburbs of Agerola, about a 30 min bus ride from Amalfi - just ask the bus driver where to get off. From the bus stop you need to walk about 400 metres to the sqaure of Bomerano where the trail signs begin and a map of the route can be checked.

Good walking shoes. A pack of wet ones - the trail is dusty and the backs of your legs will be black by the time you reach Positano and it is a fashionable resort!!

The Sentiero Degli Dei path to Positano is a pull up at the start but then it levels out, winding around the cliffs high above with little villages way below. At first only the cliffs are visible but then the coast appears way below. Try to start this walk as early as possible - it gets really hot by midway and although its not too strenuous a hike the heat and humidity can make it seem so!

The Degli Dei path to Positano provideds some of the best views of looking down onto this popular fishing village on the Amalfi coast as the path contours around the cliffs high above.

That's a nice walk that in about 4 hours will lead you from Positano o the tiny village of Nocelle (and you'll have to climb 1.700 steps!) and then to Agerola along an easy trail that will offer you wonderful views on the Amalfi Coast from a high point of view. The trail is located between 400 and 600 meters above the sea level and from there you'll enjoy wonderful aerial vies of the coast and the towns of Positano, Praiano and Vettica.

Follow the steps to Nocelle and once there, turn to the right. You'll see a big painted arrow on a wall with the sign "Agerola" that's the beginning of the trail. The trail is well marked with red and white marks and red arrows. No difficulties, but sometimes the trail is narrow and goes on the real edge of the rock, with 600 metres of empty space between you and the sea!

It's an easy walk, you’ll need good shoes and plenty of water because you'll find any water source along the way. There is one bar and restaurant in Nocelle and some of them in the square of Bomerano, where you'll arrive.
